My friend Scott Hill arranges Colina Health Education presentations on health and mental health topics of interest in our community. The latest one is scheduled Sept 11, free to public, on Eating Disorders, what they are, what one can do. If you know someone with this issue, good place to get information, as that is what Scott's effort is about, education on these topics.

Artists ages 1 to 18, on display in the annual Young Masters Show in Ten categories, (and secret category 11, photography) at Central California Art Association, judging now completed, through end of the month. I think the artists did a great job, and worth seeing.

Noticed Jean Jay and Nita Gunnarson among instructors in the community ed class schedule for MJC, page 9 through 11, and look pretty good value for art ed, or time to paint. I myself, likely to take the blues harmonica class for a change, good buy on c harps for $11 along with class fee.

I've attended these workshops over the years, since 2003 when they were partnered with Great Valley Center. I found them valuable information for the nonprofits I have worked with or been a board member. These two are Free, due to sponsor dollars.

jdc104 blogging from the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, working for JB Presents, event coordinator for the Back Country Horsemen of California Rendezvous 2007, in Turlock. Event started Friday and is primarily educational, with gentle use classes for packers and equestrian riders, and wilderness issues. Dutch Oven contest and western art show among features with the vendors at the event, and the BLM adoption of horses and burros continues until event finishes Sunday, March 26 at 3 pm.

Artists, - note Western Art Show is included at this year's Backcountry Horseman's of California Rendezvous 2007, March 23, 24 and 25 at the Stanislaus County Fairgrounds.

Horses of course are featured, including Gentle Use Classes, trainers, vendors, contests, awareds, catered banquets, vendor wine/cheese reception, and more over the three day event.

5150 disability group make you too famous? Class in Relapse Prevention

Being part of the 5150 disability peer group make you anxious, perhaps a bit too famous, in need of a better way to go?. Not all mental health clients are on the disabled list, or homeless, or unable to work. The majority do work, and about one in five people have some issue with depression, bipolar, schizophrenia, anxiety, dual diagnosis with drug and alcohol issues. Not all of us get to go to SBHC,(Stanislaus Behavioral Health Center) and there are plenty of psychologists in Modesto, not too many psychiatrists, and health insurance, being what it is, typically only covers a few visits for what can be a lifelong issue.

On Saturday while some of us partied and enjoyed our lives there were three shootings within 90 minutes here in Modesto. One man was left dead and right now three teens are sitting in juvenile hall charged with his murder.
