American Graffiti is upon us yet again

Modesto is certainly the place that you will want to be this weekend if you are feeling a bit nostalgic. Tomorrow evening at 7:00 is where you will able to get your first look at the estimated 800 cars that will be in town to celebrate American Graffiti. The 10th annual Kiwanis-sponsored parade will be a great time for the whole family to watch chrome shine and listen to the roar of some of the most beautiful cars in the country. It amazes me that people tow their cars all over the country for events like this. That is serious dedication!

Meet the next George Lucas or Wes Craven. Filmmakers from around the world will be there to do Q & A after their film.

Be sure to be in Modesto, California on June 2nd for the Modest Junior College's Tribute to the Work of George Lucas. Why come to Modesto you ask? Because it's the hometown of George Lucas. He went to school at MJC, American Graffiti was based upon his experiences in Modesto. And it really is the best place to be.

GEORGE LUCAS and MODESTO: A Historical and Cultural Symposium

Saturday June 24, 2006 1:00 pm Modesto Junior College (East Campus), Forum Room 110 Free and open to the public Modesto native George Lucas has been a major figure in American film for over three decades, and his fantastic creations have influenced generations of moviegoers. Unfortunately, a minimal amount of scholarly work has been undertaken on Lucas himself, particularly at the level of local history and culture. This event brings experts and local authors together to examine the impact that Lucas’s upbringing in mid-20th century Modesto had on his life and works. Presenters will also discuss the impact of the Lucas legacy on the city, including Graffiti Night and Lucas Plaza.
