It is close to five in the morning here and I can't seem to sleep. It is Monday Morning and a Holiday, but my family and I will not be enjoying any camping or boating today. Actually, maybe some of you would consider what my parents and I are doing right now to be camping, but I don't. I would much rather have awakened in the woods somewhere in the midst of the scent of pine or redwood.

Speaking of visitors to our pond, we have on many occasions see butterflies, moths, bees, dragonflies of different colors, and all manner of insects come to the pond. I have found it very strange that I can sit out there for quite a long time, and these flying visitors come and sit on a nearby flower, or a rock, and will sit there for a long time, very still, and get quite close to me. Each time I bring my camera with me to capture these fascinating creatures, they do not appear, or if they do appear briefly, they flit away quickly out of site before I can even turn the camera on.

Surely anyone living in Modesto who has gone downtown during the weekend has experienced the crazy preachers standing on their egg crates with a megaphone and signs in their hands, spewing hate regarding, homosexuality, immorality, or anything else that doesn’t fit their narrow point of view; commanding authority from imaginary gods.

I was out of town all of last weekend and it really killed my stamina level. This weekend depending on the heat I may take in the Art and Wine Festival downtown on Saturday and then maybe attend Yosemite Bowl's fundraiser for veterans on Sunday. There is plenty to do outside of my house, I just need to find the strength!

Imagine losing a child. For me losing one of my two daughters is a thought that I can hardly bear. Just over one year ago the Dickerson family of Modesto lost their son Ryan while he was working as a lifeguard at a summer camp in Texas. At the time of his untimely death, Ryan Dickerson was only 18 years-old and a recent graduate of Modesto High School.

My love of music started when I was in Junior.High. One of my neighbors was a huge fan of Echo and the Bunnymen and she had an extra ticket to the show. I remember putting on my best sweater (because you have to dress up for a concert! Thanks Mom) and heading to the Greek Theatre in Berkeley to see the show. As I entered the building I was confronted by one of the most mystifying situations I can remember. There were 3000 mods with their jet black hair, cool concert t-shirts, and heavy eye shadow in the audience along with Amy’s dad the neurosurgeon, and me. Her dad and I were the only people sitting and we were propped in the back completely alone. For me it wasn’t far enough away. It was so loud my entire body hurt. It was so hot I spent the entire evening sweating and scratching. I was absolutely miserable. The worst and most humiliating part was I felt uncool for the first time in my life.
