Going Out On A Limb On Immigration...

So a lot of people that I know are really passionate about Immigration. I am not super passionate either way, but I do have some opinions that I would really like some feedback on. I want to understand better why people feel the way that they do.

The rally at MJC was a big success today and it was great to see the youth from local high schools standing up to showcase their voices. There were people in the crowd of all different races and the sense of unity and community pride was inspiring.

From what I have heard, the people of Modesto really stood up today. There were some rallies and events that fizzled out like the one planned for noon on Crows Landing Road but Crows Landing Road was alive this morning and that spirit spread into Ceres, Downtown Modesto and onto the campus of MJC.

These photos are some of the first that will available for the public to view. The Modesto Bee has not published photos of the rallies held today on their site yet.

This is a prime example of community journalism at work. You are the reporters, photographers and publishers for this site because you were the ones standing in the crowds today with your fists in the air and your hearts on your sleeves.

Crows Landing Road

I just got home from what was supposed to be a major immigration rally on Crows Landing Road. I was dissapointed to see that in the hour that I was there that the rally was more of a disorganized car show than anything else.

Please don't get me wrong, but there were about 100 people standing around in a parking lot and showing off their cars. There were a handful of people that seemed honeslty concerned and like me, they just sort of walked away looking discouraged and upset.

Inactivity is the one thing about Modesto that I have never quite understood. People seem to complain about issues but getting a person to speak their mind and open up is like pulling teeth.

Central California has thousands of immigrant workers and based on what I saw on Crows Landing Road, most of them either just don't care about what is happening with the laws or maybe they are just too scared to stand up and speak out.

I will be at MJC today at 3:30 and I hope to see more of a response in regard to the issues at hand. What do you, our readers, have to say about what is happening? What did you expect would occur today? On a national level, this seems to be creating a buzz but here at home local businesses are taking the opportunity to pass out free hats and shirts to promote their efforts. I even spoke to a young man that is getting paid today just to drive around in a truck covered with ads for a local car dealership.

Speak up folks. There have to be a few opinions out there.
