Today, April 1, 2008, Human Services Day at Modesto Junior College, annual event under direction, Faculty member, Dr. Kimberly Kennard, and the Human Services Club, of students of MJC. I've done information tables at this event since 2003, since my friend Diana Rocha a member, and this event gets more notice, and participation every year.

Noticed Jean Jay and Nita Gunnarson among instructors in the community ed class schedule for MJC, page 9 through 11, and look pretty good value for art ed, or time to paint. I myself, likely to take the blues harmonica class for a change, good buy on c harps for $11 along with class fee.

I'm just writing to say that after 3+ years, Vote Nixon is retiring. If he wasn't full-full time before, then Devin is moving onto full-full-FULL time Evening News, and Conrad and I will have a new group together shortly. I'm sad to see the group done, but it'll be nice to stretch the ol' legs again.

Summer School

Summer school starts tomorrow and I am teaching an English 101 class, but instead of sticking with the same old issue-based stuff, I am gonna shove some great literature down my students' throats and see if they shit gold dust or erupt in diarrhea. I think we'll meet outside most mornings under a tree and suck in some Redwood penumbra. It's the only way I think I'll get through those mornings when the sun is a child at the door waiting for me to come out and play. These are very good Modesto days before the hell of summer really begins to hammer us into submission. If you care for some light reading and a vicarious classroom experience, try these fine titles: Ask the Dust, John Fante; Interpreter of Maladies, Jhumpa Lahiri; The Effects of Knut Hamsun on a Fresno Boy, Gary Soto.
