I really should start this post with a quick tip to all of the aspiring criminals out there.
You should be happy that I am telling you this now before you go and make the same mistake that Brian Christopher Hoar, 20 of Turlock did. Hoar and his partner in crime, Victoria Murphree were recently arrested for committing a robbery of the McDonald's restaurant (I need a Big Mac, large fries and a pile o' cash please) on West main Street in Turlock.
Tis the Season, and Modesto Bee, www.modbee.com been loaded with holiday cheer locally, on the Front Page Sunday, with a big foreclosure feature, how its way up, and likely to get worse, and if you lose the house, you're homeless too. Crime up in local news.
We have been busy here lately! This town never fails to amaze me. First we have all the hyphy problems and that turns into a race issue and now we have stupid kids beating the hell out of the homeless and laughing about it. I realize that every town has it's very own set of problems so there is no need to tell me that. But holy crap! It is getting dark and gloomy around here and that has nothing to do with the rain clouds that are overhead.
So I am in bed this morning and Tinkerbell my trusty Chihuahua jumps right on my head. At first I was mad as hell because a Chihuahua to the head is a damn odd feeling first thing in the morning. But as I rolled over I looked out my bedroom window and noticed a person in my gated back yard!
The Modesto Bee is reporting today that Police Chief, Roy Wasden will meet with a city council subcommittee today and is expected to ask for a camera system to monitor activity downtown. Every move that we make will be filmed and sent via a wireless network directly to police cars.
Last night was crazy for this little fat man. I hit the ground running at the Stanislaus County Fair and plowed my way through an entire evening of craziness and mayhem. I think that the fried Snickers bar that I ate at the fair boosted my energy while it melted into my arteries. That thing was delicious and everyone should experience it once in their life but there should be a warning label on every one that is sold.
I will say it again just in case anyone out there missed it. Modesto Famous is here because we want to show that Modesto can be a place with positive people and positive things to do. In other words, there is not a whole lot of room left for negative issues. But, I think that David John Depew of our fair little city must not have gotten that memo.
In the nearly five years that I have lived here I have watched the population steadily grow. I have watched the retail sector explode and I have noticed that the smaller cities around us like Turlock, Oakdale and Riverbank seem to be snaking their way closer to our borders. How long will it be before it all just feels like one big city?
