Inquiring about Sabatino

The Bee reports this morning that it is possible that former Modesto mayor Carmen Sabatino's criminal trial on corruption charges could be declared a mistrial today. Apparently, jurors did not sign verdict forms when documents were sealed on Monday suggesting that the jury could be deadlocked. In addition to the form signing issue, the jury foreman is said to have tried to remove jurors that did not agree with him by using words like "studid and "angry" against them.

Immigration bill sparks student protests

In many schools across the state yesterday students walked out of class in protest of HR4437, the Border Protection, Anti-Terrorism, and Illegal Immigration Control Act of 2005.

Modesto protest has been small thus far but could get larger as the legislation gets closer to being passed. According to The Modesto Bee, Modesto High School Principal Melda Gaskins said a group of about 60 students said they would like to hold a forum today during lunch. Informed students would explain the legislation to other students to promote better understanding.

Know your rights. Your home could be searched illegally.

The Modesto Bee reported today that the The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that police cannot enter a home to conduct a search when they are welcomed in by one occupant but turned away by another.
