*PRESS RELEASE* Cops to saturate area over long weekend

Law enforcement agencies throughout Stanislaus County will be joining together to conduct DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols in Oakdale and Stanislaus County this Memorial Day weekend as part of the Avoid the Twelve campaign. DUI saturation patrols will occur Friday, May 23, and Sunday, May 25, throughout Stanislaus County. DUI checkpoints will be conducted on Saturday, May 24, and Monday, May 26, in the City of Oakdale.

It was the first real test of how the community would react to an uncensored, unedited open forum and frankly, it surprised us to see how far and fast that Modesto ran with the concept. People wrote in and expressed their opinions on police power, racial issues, music, the way that the youth here are treated and how they felt about the cultural lines between Modesto and the East Bay blurring together rapidly.

The MPD is building a new practice facility

According to the Bee this morning, The MPD is creating a 50 acre practice facility southwest of our fair city. The practice facility will feature recreated neighborhoods, moving targets and classrooms. There will also be a firing range that police officers will have access to every day.
