Dr. Rose Parker will read from her award-winning autobiography, "Beat Up, Beat Down, and Still Standing," on Friday, February 29 at 2 pm in the Bechtel Center. Parker made history in 2000 when she was released from a life sentence by former California Governor Gray Davis.

Goleman’s 1995 book, Emotional Intelligence, argues that emotions play a much greater role in thought, decision-making skills and individual success than is commonly acknowledged. It was on the New York Times’ best seller list for 18 months and has been translated into 30 languages. It has sold more than 5 million copies. His new book on social intelligence was released last week.

Best-selling author and Stockton native Daniel Goleman will speak at University of the Pacific’s Faye Spanos Concert Hall at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 3. The event is free and open to the public.
The internationally known psychologist and lecturer will discuss the role of emotional and social intelligence in leadership and how to cultivate those abilities. His appearance comes at an optimal time for Pacific because the university is exploring ways to use Goleman’s work both inside and outside the classroom.
