Maybe you think the MAMA awards are old news, but I have to put my two cents in. I attended the awards ceremony with my beautiful daughter and a good friend and we really enjoyed the show. Their were a couple things in particular that I'd like to mention.

Russian Pianist Leo Kasperovich at Clayton's for Art Walk

Clayton's will be open for dinner, drinks, ART, and music. Many of the regulars will be at the MAMA awards at State Theatre, as nominated and waiting to find out the award presentations. Here's the schedule this month, and be sure to drop in on Lost Art Gallery and visit Nevada Silva next door while you are in the area. Art at Clayton's is for sale, watercolors, drawings, likely music theme this month, and if I"m still with JB Presents at the State Theatre, pick up business card, or wait til I get back to Clayton's to pick up easels and art. We also draw during Blue Monday, Steve got one this past week, and you never know when the art group shows up except Third Thursday, but here's a copy of the music schedule, and a part of why State Theatre is not on art walk this month, as the Modesto Area Music Association, supports poets over at Photographers Gallery, jazz at Clayton's, Barking Dog, or stop in Mistlin Gallery. Third Thursday Art Walk, always a lot going on that night downtown.

MAMA award nominees posted, voting begun

Reviewing my art column, eric benson's column, in modesto view, noticed voting has opened for the 2008 Modesto Area Music Association awards. I let John Black know Modesto Blues Festival nominated once again, a lot of the Blue Monday players, Blues Fest artists Joe Barretta, and the Rhythm Deluxe band, friends like Not an Airplane, Sapo Sueno, Rachel Renae, Joelle Maddyson, Valley Rhythm Section, Johny Valdez, Dave Hanley Band, Panhandle, and a lot of familiar venues including the State Theatre where the awards will be presented Art Walk night, October 16, so voting now open.

Let me begin with an introduction. I am a newcomer to this local scene, having never written about it before, having participated few times willingly, purposely keeping my distance. Yet, I have been in Modesto since 1983, seen music a couple times at the Fat Cat, drank at Tresetti’s, sipped hot brew at Queen Bean, and, yes, even back in high school played shows in a band. I adore music, the arts, and independently study Pythagoras’ other passion (the one not called mathematics).

The Modesto Area Music Awards took over the State Theatre Thursday night
and celebrated the best of local music with seven live performances and
a wild mix of other unforgettable events and surprises.

Just a personal note, I voted for Dave Hanley, longtime friend, also got to do a poster for him at a gig in San Francisco Valentine's Day. Thanks Dave, who is likely at the Strawberry Music Festival this weekend.
