Just yesterday I received an itemized statement for my stay at UCSF Medical Center a couple of weeks ago. I also received a statement from the company that took me on a one hour and 10 minute helicopter ride to Roseville where I needed to receive care. » read more
Well, I thought that I was getting a bit healthier. I was wrong. Again. Anyway, I was visiting family last week and about 1:00 a.m. Monday morning something gave way in my esophagus. I'll spare you all the exciting gory details. I was rushed from their home to a local hospital by ambulance, spent about two hours at that hospital and then I was flown to Roseville for further care. I thought that the whole medical helicopter trip would be interesting. I was wrong. Again. » read more
I just wanted to thank everyone who has sent voice messages and e-mails my way. I am still in San Francisco and getting tested for just about every illness under the sun! I hope that all of you are well. » read more
It is close to five in the morning here and I can't seem to sleep. It is Monday Morning and a Holiday, but my family and I will not be enjoying any camping or boating today. Actually, maybe some of you would consider what my parents and I are doing right now to be camping, but I don't. I would much rather have awakened in the woods somewhere in the midst of the scent of pine or redwood. » read more
So there I was at Summerfest on Saturday when all of a sudden I started having stomach pains that I could not not manage. A few hours later, I was on an operating table undergoing major surgery to repair a bowel obstruction and a hernia. How on Earth I ended up in that condition is only known to God above. » read more

Many of you have expressed concern for ModestoFamous.com and for me personally as I deal with the Bee and that means the world to me. I recently was interviewed by acclaimed author, N.L. Belardes of Bakersfield and the link to his finished article can be found here. » read more
Many of you know that I suffer from a rare terminal liver disease and that I am in need of a liver transplant. I have developed many friends in this community and they have decided that they want to throw a party to help raise some money for my wife and I to deal with my medical expenses. I am truly honored by this gesture! What an awesome community that we live in! Thank you Modesto!

Have you ever had a friend who was always willing to take the blame for you? Who stood up for you although you weren't always correct. Who gave you their Myspace password. Well I do, and I believe you do as well. Ruben Porras is a man who has guided me through dark caves, and has personally given a new viewpoint on life to me. Learning to appreciate is one thing, but appreciating the learning process isn't always easy. With Ruben present, those boring weekends turn into nights of laughter. Whether being sick or down is in my agend, I can always rely on those random text messages at 2 am asking if I were awake. Ladies and gentlemen it is about time we give back to Ruben what he has GIVEN OUR COMMUNITY. Without him the music scene wouldn't be as vibrant as it is(special thanks to Chris Murphy, Greg Edwards, and Chris Ricci as well). Without his blogs on "appreciating life" we wouldn't have enjoyed the trips to Wal-Mart at one in the morning. Without his life lessons we would have no respect for diversity and culture. Let's face it, the man is a modern day Modesto Doctor Phil, only much cooler. An event at Hero's Sports Bar (821 L Street) will be held in honor of raisng money to go to Ruben Porras' "Each Day Counts" foundation. The door will be set at $5.00 and 100% of the proceeds will go directly to the foundation for medical funding, medicine etc. Your money will go to great cause, and you will get Four Live Bands. The bands will be listed on the front page of ModestoFamous.com along with the date and time. The Modesto Bee's own Marijke Rowland will also assist with making the effort for this fundraiser inviting. Everyone and anyone willing to help please contact me immediately at (209)602-3482. Two slots for the musical acts are filled, thus leaving two open spots. If you would like to take part in this event please contact me immediately. Otherwise I will book the open set times within the next week. Godbless, » read more
