Can you see it thru the fog? I think it’s there- in the distance… it’s the 2009 Stanislaus County Fair! Can you believe we are already in the planning stages of the 2009 Fair? I’m staying on-board for another year to bring you ‘the scoop’ about the 2009 Fair. Our theme is “Renewable Fun�? and we are taking steps to be greener: recycling, alternative fuel, planting trees are all just some of the things we will be promoting as part of our Fair fun! We are taking steps to make our Fair more Eco-friendly with recycle bins, fun educational activities for kids and adults alike, new exhibits and competitive categories, all promoting a healthier earth! I think it is so important to know about your heritage and as much as I like change I think traditions should be respected and not forgotten. The band Mariachi Vargas started over 110 years ago and is still going strong. They have appeared in over 200 movies in their career! You can guess that the members have changed over the years, but their big brass sound withstands the test of time. I think it all goes back to staying true to your roots. Despite the changing times Mariachi Vargas has not drastically altered their sound and that is what makes them unique.

In the spirit of the Stanislaus County Fair’s motorsports and bull riding tickets going on sale this Saturday, we visited opening day of the Spring Fair in Los Banos yesterday.
As we were strolling their beautiful fairgrounds, there he was—a mechanical bull in my midst.

Humpz and Hornz Bull Riding

I am so stoked to have this new event at the Stanislaus County Fair! I have never seen bull riding, except for in the movies so I had my co-worker explain it to me. There are two judges that score the rider and the bull. When/ if the rider stays on the bull for 8 seconds he/she receives a score from both judges, added together then divided by two for the total. The bull rider that scores the highest, up to 100 points, wins the competition. There is no saddle and the bull rider must ride holding on to a bull rope with one hand. The rider is disqualified if he/she touches his/her body or the bull during the 8 seconds.
