Ruben Porras [1] - a man of many faces. For a few years now many of you have know him as "Each Day Counts" from eachdaycounts.com [2]; or as the Art and Entertainment writer for the Pirate's Log - Modesto Junior College's small newspaper; since March of this year he's built a new group of followers as "Motown Mojo" from ModestoFamous.com [3]. For many others, he's know as a father, husband, and friend. To all, he's know as man fighting to overcome a terminal disease [4].
His passion in life is be a journalist. Currently, while he is unable to work he stays busy by helping promote local bands in the area through Modesto Famous and Off the Air events. Each week he features Free Music Tuesday at modestofamous.com with a local bands/artists - trying to get their names 'out there'. In appreciation of his efforts, Matt Colp [5] from The Evening News [6] has decided to put on a charity event in honor of Ruben. All profits will be used to help Ruben travel a little - another passion of his - to be able to see things that he may not have otherwise been able too - incase he doesn't beat this disease - to help him make sure he lives every day to it's fullest and makes Each Day Count. Many other bands from the area are donating their time to play that evening at Hero's Sports Lounge in downtown Modesto on Sept 29th, 2006.
