“Moods of Color on Display at the Mistlin Gallery
The Central California Art Association is proud to present “Moods
of Color, featuring the work of Kate Jackson, through September
27th at the Mistlin Gallery. Kate Jackson is a fourth generation native
of California with a passion for watercolor which has maintained
a 20+ year career.
Kate Jackson’s works are abstract in nature, dabbling with a variety
of mediums, including papers, paints, inks, fabrics and pastels.
“I’ve always attempted to add texture to my work, using pencil,
ink, pouring paint and using texturing overlays of saran and other
papers, said Kate of her work. “In more recent years I decided
to add collage materials over and under the paint, and experiment
with adding other media to the mix. The results are whimsical and
bright, emphasizing color, movement, and texture.
Although abstract, many of Kate’s works reflect her reactions and
thoughts about the world and world events. For example, her featured
2002 work titled “Phoenix Rising reveals Jackson ’s thought
surrounding the September 11th, 2001 attack on the World Trade
Center in New York City . “I was overcome with the deep profound
sadness that the events of September 11th triggered. The searing
pain of the devastation and loss of life was enormous and the
gloom seemed pervasive to all of our existence, said Jackson . “My
piece focuses on the Phoenix rising above the images of the WTC
destruction. Traditionally the Phoenix is depicted in brilliant reds
and purples, however my desire is for it to represent the new world
emerging and rising above the destructive and vengeful level of human
expression to spiritual rebirth and eternal love!
Kate’s work can be seen at the Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J Street ,
through September 27th, 2008. Gallery Hours are Tues-Fri, 11:30-
6:00, and Sat 12:00-4:00. A public reception will be held September
18th, 2008 from 6pm-9pm (during the Third Thursday Art Walk).
