My phone is still on fire here, but IM trying to get the latest 411 on this for you as of now! Friends, Please pray that this isn’t so. MODESTO, Calif. -- Eighty Modesto Bee positions may be eliminated and the paper could be printed in Sacramento come September, the president and publisher of the newspaper said Friday in a note to employees.
According to the proposed plan, The Modesto Bee would be printed on the presses of its sister paper, The Sacramento Bee.
"Although we are still working through various transition and operational details, it is clear that this move makes both financial and operational sense," Modesto Bee publisher Margaret R."
Randazzo did not immediately return a call to clarify if the affected employees would lose their jobs altogether or be reassigned.
"This change in our business model would result in the reduction of approximately 80 equivalent full-time positions," Randazzo wrote. "Again, we are still working through many transition details, so employees affected by the change would be notified of the impact on their jobs and severance package details once plans are finalized."
Mark S. Vasche, editor and senior vice president of the paper, declined to comment and referred questions to Randazzo.
Prepress and page make-up functions would still be handled in Modesto, Randazzo said.
The Idaho Statesman and The Bellingham Herald, two other McClatchy Co. newspapers, recently announced that they will be printed by nearby newspapers, Randazzo said.
The Modesto Bee is currently printed in Modesto.
"Moves such as this enable us to navigate to a more stable and prosperous future as an integrated media company continuing to service as our community's most trusted supplier of news and advertising information," Randazzo wrote.

This Can Help..

So I get my best ideas when I’m running or on my spin bike.. The thought of so many folks losing their job over at the bee just disappoints me. And even thought the bee will make the transition with the printing of our local newspaper in Sacramento this September; I’m sure they will make it as beneficially economically friendly to those who have been at their jobs at the bee since the begging of time. Me, I came up with some ideas to help generate more sales at the bee. In turn, it might keep some of those jobs here and create new ones in the process.. One is to have a small fee to get the bee in your email box. Why not! Many of the folks that I have asked, do you get the bee? Na, why pay for it. I can read it online & for free. I guess it makes since, why by the cow when you can get it for free. Still, that ‘s not the way I make cents.. Senses..

I’m thinking, offer the bee online sure, but only half of the story to be read & if the reader wants, they can purchase it through an online subscription through the bee. A three month commitment or something like that. Offer incentives on taking the bee through print.. If they subscribe to the printable paper, give them a great deal to get it in there email box as a PDF or online viewing at modbee.com.. This is just one idea of many here I came up with while I was spinning this morning.. Heck, IM sure they have blended this idea over at the bee as well. But why not!
I’m thinking it would work well for our slower economy, well for the environment and well for those who need their jobs. Me, I have always been one to think outside of the box to keep things rolling. Since April, I have been back helping my sister to help keep the doors open at Queen Bean in Modesto. Sure we do great business there, “TBTG‿ but we take nothing for granted. We to have seen the effects of a slower economy through the sales from last year and have had to tweak our way of thinking to roll with the punches. Anyway, lets keep doing business in Modesto! Our community depends on it! & please remember friends.. When one person loses their job, it effects us all. We are in this together..

Newspaper is nearly obsolete

What is the reason to subscribe to the Modesto Bee. The news you read is not news. It's a day old. If you want news, you can get it from radio, television and the internet. These sources should provide you with up to date news and information. If your radio station or television station is not giving you up to date news and information, they are not properly serving the community that they hold an fcc license in. The internet provides you with real time news and is usually updated by the minute. Good bye Bee. You have no purpose anymore.
