Prop 2

Because of what I do for a living you would think I would automaticaly support prop 2. The Farm animals Initiatve..........but as of this moment I am not convinced it is in the best interest of Californians. I, however, could be persuaded if I had more information. As of this post all requests for more information from the supporters of Prop 2 have not been replied to...

The proposed act prohibits the confinement of farm animals in a manner that does not allow them to turn around freely, lie down, stand up, and fully extend their limbs.

[5] Additionally, the measure:

Imposes a misdemeanor penalty and a fine of up $1,000 or imprisonment in county jail for up to six months to those who have been found to violate the act.

Bans cages for egg-laying poultry, gestation crates for sows and veal crates for veal calves.

As it reads now....the only real effect it would have is to INCREASE the costs you pay for eggs. as the use of gestation crates are not common in california, I dont know any hog farmer that uses em.

I can not comment on veal crates as I do not raise veal and know very little about the process.

Prop 2 says......Prop 2 prevents cruelty to animals
Truth is, as long as humans and Animals shar this planet, curelty will exist

Prop 2 improves our health and food safety .......

There is nothing in Prop 2 that changes any law about the health and safety of food preparation nor blocks the use of hormones or antibiotics

Prop 2 supports family farmers, who are driven out of business when factory farms cut corners and put profits ahead of animal welfare and our health

Unless this closes down factory farms the law will have NO impact on small farms.

Prop 2 protects air and water and safeguards the environment

Again there is nothing in the Prop that regulates the waste generated by factory farms.

Prop 2 is a reasonable and common-sense reform, which will take effect in 2015 and won't be costly to implement

It will be costly to factory farms and to consumers that buy from them.

These are my opinons based on the facts that I have now....PLEASE feel free to contact me if I have some or all of the facts wrong.

I will keep you posted as I learn more
