Street musicians downtown?

Hi Morgan, Entertainment regs just changed with City Council, mostly applying to businesses. Sidewalk permits often needed for events downtown, and there is an ordinance regarding sidewalk artists, musicians, and of course panhandling, but check with Convention and Visitors bureau, as I know Jennifer Mullen knows the regs, as I've talked to her about them regarding art. MPD is also over on 10th and G could also tell you what goes, what doesn't ahead of time. You might also check with your local live music, comdey venues, see if gigs open, or find out from open mic friends where to play. Visitors bureau over on 9th Street, at K under Double Tree hotel, often also know of special events where musicians can get a gig. When in doubt, leave guitar case open.

Actually I think you can probably do sidewalk performers with two fairly easy and inexpensive permits. Go down to the Modesto Police Department and pull a street closure permit and a sound amplification permit. Then turn those in to Heather Graves. You should be good to go.

On the Street Closure permit it has a box that you check to "use the sidewalk". Fill it out, check that box and turn it in.

Its an easy process and its inexpensive. There is no reason not to hook it up.

I'd be glad to drop a few bucks in your hat to support local arts. You should really try to get started on an evening that the art walk is taking place. Art Walks are downtown on the third Thursday of every month. Good luck!

Hi Morgan, see, local venue owner/promoter x fest would know the regs, go for it. Not that we don't do music at art walk, we do.... that is every third thursday, but try a Queen Mab's Second Saturday maybe, see Elizabeth, her place next door to State Theatre.
