Note: Mental Health has moved some Services, attention please

Hello Modesto Famous Readers. Some of you know that our nonprofit fundraiser choice for Modesto Blues Festival and United Community Walk, is NAMI Stanislaus, stands for National Alliance on Mental Illness. Its not the only volunteer group I work with on this topic, but in resuming my work in art, I won't deny, I've been a downtown area resident who has been in crisis before, such my friends, family noiced, and so here is something to note.

Some of my friends out there, I know some of them well, including prior to the mental wellness challenge they may have with some severity, some through my volunteer work, are out there, maybe a bit more dazed and confused than usual, and correlation is Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, i.e. the Mental Health Dept. has recently had a relocation of services, and not all my friends may have gotten the message, or a side effect of meds, as much as the illness can be memory issues, so here's an update.

BHRS has a volunteer warm line, in case you or a friend need to chat. Its also tied to the emergency line in the phone book under bhrs county listings, in case you need more help than that.

If looking for your modesto regional services, that were located on Kansas Avenue, or 14th street, or with Telecare on Yosemite, its moved, along with Wellness Recovery Center, was by Speak Easy and Aqua Shi on 12th and NAMI Stanislaus, and the forensics program have all moved to the new Shopping Center for Mental Health at 500 N. Ninth Street, near Coldwell/Woodland, and the busline won't stop directly there until sometime in August. I thought I'd bring this to the public's attention prior to the open house July 10, where art show is scheduled, as its operating, and my friends can use it before the public invited to ooh and ahhhh, etc.

This is serious, as one of the reasons Modesto Blues Festival is quite involved with mental wellness, recovery, mental health, as something we who help staff and produce it, have lived, ourselves, or other family members or friends, or they've been affected, and its the actual largest disability group..... and often most stigmatized, one you often really don't want to be, often difficult to understand what's happening.

I've asked MH Board, others in the system to get that info out to the public, just like the message that Recovery is Possible, so you don't always have to drop the dime on these friends of mine, on a 5150, when maybe just reminding them the new center is that a way, or know to call someone who might help them have a better day, so we all one too. It helps to understand people with differences to know more about the situation, reduces fear, also makes it more effective when you try and assist or help them, yourself if in such circumstances. It has worked in this way for me, why I blog it here this evening.

jdc104 to a friend of mine, hope to catch you next time I'm down that way M, need to get what's up....
