I have been doing quite a bit of thinking the last few days about gay marriage being allowed in California. Come November, the ruling can be overturned by voters but in my opinion, I think that people should be allowed to do what they need to do to be happy.
I understand that this is a heated topic, but it has been really weighing heavy on my mind and I have just one reason to give to people that ask me how I could be in favor of such a thing.
It is quite simple in my opinion. Life is short. Think about it, love feels good. Even during some of the darkest moments of the liver disease that I am fighting, it was my love for Megan that pulled me through and kept me fighting. Now that we are apart, it is so much harder for me to get through hospital stays and it gets very difficult for me to manage my pain when nobody is here rubbing my back and telling me that it will all be alright.
A couple of years ago I was in San Francisco volunteering at their gay pride festival and I watched as a contingent of gay police officers walked the parade route. Some of them had adopted children in tow. These are the kids that without these parents would be in the foster care system. In this day and age, there are so many broken homes. For these children to have two loving parents is a wonderful thing.
When I say life is short, I mean that we never know what will happen to us and when. My terminal liver disease was not scheduled. I never knew that I would have to live through radiation to rid my body of cancer. But when I found out how sick I was Megan was with me and her love made it all manageable. For that period of time, I felt love and it was beautiful. I hope to feel love again one day.
My point is that in my opinion, people should be allowed the right to do what they need to do to have love in their lives. If they choose to get married, that should be their right during their lifetime. Life is short.
I am curious to see if I get any feedback on this post. Tell me how you feel please. There won't be any censorship tolerated here. Please just be respectful in sharing your opinion. There is no need for hate or anger.
Have a great week,
