About two-weeks ago(April 20th) me and my girlfriend drove out to Patterson to check out this house show she read about at the Modesto Junior College bulletin board. I wasn't to excited about going to a house show especially knowing that there would be nothing but a bunch of drunk high school teenagers and me, a grown 37 year old man looking out for the cops just as much as them x2
The show was opened up beautifully to my surprise by "Tapestry", not really a friend but I've seen him perform at a good amount of Modesto shows! I didn't catch the names of the other bands that performed but the only thing that was keeping me around was the fact that it was a school night at about 10pm out in the cold yet these kids(a good 30-40) were sticking around for something with high anticipation and smiles on their faces...I looked at my girlfriend and asked if she knew who they were sticking around for, she looked and smiled "Sweetheart I have no Idea but I'm cold and wanna go home"
Right after she says that the lights dim and cheering begins, 3 young men walk up on this nice carpeted area in the middle of a beat up garage and the sound of an analog synthesizer kicks in while heavy guitar riffs and screaming kicks out. Right after they played their opening song the kid who was screaming smiles and says "Hey, we're Franklin The Werewolf" Next thing you know the kid on the synthesizer picks up a microphone and just like that starts singing while the guitar kicks out heavy yet beautiful alternative/punk sounding chords and the crowd goes NUTS!!! My girlfriend turns to me and says "that was f#%*!ng awesome" My blood was pumping so much that I went and bought a cheap one dollar demo off them after their set and grew excited when I found out they finally landed a gig in Modesto...Don't miss out, It's totally worth it...I'll buy your f#&*!ng ticket for you if you can't afford the recyclable $5 dollar fee!
