Off the Air, short review
I've been framing pics today, for the Visually Impaired Persons Support Center show tomorrow, 9 am to 4 pm, had this sale to partner of one rejected from Spring Show, took the two back from last show, took in the three for Sping Show, tired of art I decided to take a break, see a real show, with art by Angry F on the walls. I'm working on my follow up to my letter to the editor of the Modesto Bee yesterday of the idea of that train and hwy 33 overpass into that park in Patterson in front of City Hall, like Bambi meets Godzilla and how to draw that one out..... so was ready from some time at DEVA. compare my shots to Efren J's.
Tonight's review of the Off the Air show at Cafe Deva, May 2, 2008, starts with an email on myspace from Not an Airplane. Not knowing if JB or I will make it, as haven't dropped in on a Greg Edwards Deva show in awhile, usually find him behind the scenes or at the snack bar at Prospect Theatre Project supporting that menacing Poet Laureate at Slam on Rye, I wrote back, I might make it. Last I'd seen of Nick, at open mic with Jeff Bonilla at that other coffee house on 14th Street. Nick wrote back, he understood, but I should come by and see and hear Travis.
So, I went, new State Theatre Art Walk posters, featuring our music guests, Solo bassists, and Blues Fest posters, with me, and, well, only $5 in , wasn't about to pay a buck to Julie for the ear plugs, I live thru Doyle Kinnon's sound on Blue Monday at Clayton's. and it was crowded. So, stayed near the door, admired Angry F's art on the walls, after all, had just seen Allen at P. Wexford's pub, where I was drawing that other graphic artist on guitar and fiddle Steve Kenworthy on Rachel Renae's 27th birthday, which reminded me I'd forgotten my camera, had brought my sketch pad, give me something to do, before the break, when I could get that Guinness.
Above is the view while Travis doing a great set. After this, and tying to get that Angry F set of graphics across the room just right, got that Guinness, and sat back next to getting ready to get up and sing, Shelly Short.....great subject I thought for a portrait, see below.....
So..... I was going to show Shelly this great portrait I did of her, just a few off the air staging issues for me to get around to get it right, ..... she was great by the way.... but ran into, oh, before she went on, that poet laureate guy was by, saw Not an Airplane, that Jeff Bonilla fellas, almost worked on his portraiet, maybe be cool like that Aaron Durr portrait by Angry F, ran into Efren, caught me with his camera.......... so missed the start of Not an Airplane, but since I got his first portrait right with the water bottle on his chair at Fat Cat, thought I'd do one from memory of his typical landing gear, when I got over to Clayton's for another Guinness, and not mess up yet to be done Rachel Renae portrail.
Great Show, as you clearly see by the crowd effectively in the picture, in case the musicians weren't.
