United Community Walk, and Modesto Blues Festival

John Black, or JB of JB Presents wrote in this letter to the editor, regarding the United Community Walk, coming up June 14, with the Modesto Blues Festival. A lot of groups invited, this is community walk, nonprofits, service groups, you got a cause, or want to celebrate recovery, or help in our fundraising effort for NAMI Stanislaus, or want to raise awareness, or just the fun of walking or riding a bike on the new Virginia Corridor Trail, prior to enjoying some great Blues music in Graceada Park, come out and join us. If interested in being a part of this, email john at johnb@jbpresents.com or call 209-985-0467.

for updates on the United Community Walk, and Modesto Blues Festival, see our blog at http://www.myspace.com/modesto_blues_fest or at http://www.jbpresents.com For information on nami, see http://www.nami.org the national website. NAMI Stanislaus is a local Stanislaus County organization of volunteers, emphasizing education and awareness activities.

This end of the awareness and charitable and nonprofit participation in the blues festival, has always been a part of the show and effort to network good causes in our community. We will also have a booth at the Farmer's Market Art Walk at the library, same day, Flag Day, June 14, with directions to walk in the community walk, or over to Graceada Park for the Blues Festival, with art venue, lot of friends and fun.

Mental health advocates need help

editor, Modesto Bee.

The number of family members and friends who have experienced the challenges associated with an onset of one of a wide variety of mental health disorders is on the rise. Alone and uneducated, families struggle to find their way as emotion and pain drive their actions. There are answers available; for many years, the Stanislaus Chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness has waged an educational and awareness campaign to address this hot topic.

The family and consumer members of NAMI now need your help to continue this gallant effort. Stanislaus NAMI is asking our community to support us in our United Community Walk in Graceada Park on June 14. We plan to assemble in the park and walk down the Virginia Corridor to help end stigma and build community support.

We are looking for interested parties to become walk captains and develop teams to raise funds and awareness for this all-too-often forgotten organization.
