My brother Larry Christiansen into American Chess Hall of Fame, May 3
Larry is currently living in Cambridge, MA with my sister in law Natasha. Mom called him to tell him I was in the paper on Wednesday, catch up on the news with him in Boston area. Natasha mentioned this scoop, so I put in the modestofamous.com after posting on our myspace, as this is news in our area. 1995, Modesto hosted the US Closed Invitational Chess Championship, a title he's held three times, but did not play that year, though the second ranked player, as also missing, first ranked player Yasser Seirawan. However, Hall of Famer, six time US Champion Walter S. Browne of Berkeley, did play, as also Nick DeFirmian and Joel Benjamin, the grandmasters to be inducted with Larry at an event in Florida.
We called Larry and Natasha today, only to find he has just gotten the news, he will be inducted into the American/US Chess Hall of Fame, May 3, in Florida, along with friends and also multiple US Chess Champions Joel Benjamin, and Nick DeFermian.
Here is a jpg of Larry's first Chess Book, printed by Falcon Press in San Francisco, published by Christiansen Brothers Publishing, in 1978, Modesto, California.
Larry is from Riverside, California, born June 27, 1956.
I asked my brother if this honor means he is retired, to which he said Hell no, of course not.
