Gene Loves Jezebel at The Greek Theater in Berkley & now at The State

Gene Loves Jezebel at the Greek Theater in Berkley

The year was 1987, it was the New Order “Substance Tour,‿ I was a stage hand for Bill Graham Presents and a very young apprentice on way to becoming a Sound Engineer. This was the last time I saw Gene Loves Jezebel. In fact the lead singer sat next to me behind the sound board while New Order was performing. Gene opened up the show that night, then fallowing was Echo & the Bunnymen and of course headlining was New Order. Back in 1987 times moved very fast and it was a party Big Time!
The bus driver for New Order and I became very good friends and we chilled on the New Order bus in between sets. Yes, with New Order.. In fact, The bus driver shared some pictures with me of other bands that he had toured with. The photos that I can remember the most were the ones with Motley Crew. The bus was owned by Motley Crew and New Order was just renting it from them for their tour across the States. The pictures were about the craziest things I have ever seen in my life of concert goers/women doing what ever it took to get on the bus with Motley Crew. Sinfully Crazy. LOL The Substance show was amazing! Truthfully, I only caught the last part of Gene Loves Jezebel on stage because I was on the New Order bus making sure they had what they needed. Ya, it was a party! This Thursday, at The State Theater, should be a wonderful treat for Modesto. I personally am hoping to make it with my wife. Will see,.. Hats off to The State Theater for bringing back the 80’s for a spell to Modesto.

My favorite song by Gene Loves Jezebel
Desire
Best memory from their music
Cruzing around San Francisco in my Triumph Spit Fire with the top down listening to their cassettes 1990

My coolest memory of a Flock of Seagulls, seeing them on MTV back when I was 12 years old. MTV was just in its infancy back then and it was all videos.

Fondest memory of Real Life. Digging that crazy eyeliner they sported on American Bandstand when I was 12 years young. It was their BIG TV débuted in the States.

But, Styx was the first record I ever bought with my on Mula.

Got a call from The State 80’s
Thanks for returning my call Beverly, I guess their is some tickets left for the 30 bones and up seats. Feeling a little under the weather here. I think its something I ate. In fact, I know its something I ate. Looks like IM going to pass on the 80’s at The State Theater tonight. I’m encouraging everyone to show! Then head over to The Speak Easy for the best in 80’s being flipped by DJ CHOPSTIQS. Thanks very much Beverly/ The State Theater and if you ever have an 80’s band feature again, send me over the 411 and I will do all that I can to help you promote it! I can help!

Just ripped some more rare pieces from LP to CD. They are now digitized. I went ahead and uploaded them for your listen pleasure. Why? Cause I love you! If you listen carefully, you can hear the needle hitting the record as the song plays. It’s a DJ’s favorite sound. Vinyl.. Smiles
Songs uploaded today are
A-Ha - Summer Moved On
Strawberry Switchblade-Re-Uploaded Its working now!
Thompson Twins - Get that love
Thomas Dolby - Decedents
Thomas Dolby -- Submarines
Human League - Fascination
Human League - Human
Below are extra treats for you.. Haven’t released these since 1996
New Order - Mega Mix The Quake DJ 1992
Vitamin Z - Burning Flame
Vitamin Z - Circus Ring
Vitamin Z is a band from Europe and has been out of print since the early 90’s
They sold the rights to these song/LP below. Big Dorks! The Album was called “Rites of Passage“
There are only a few know copies left in the world. After speaking to a friend of the band who lives in Europe, it’s not likely that these LP/songs will re-release in the know future, so he says. But hey, miracles do happen all the time.
Well, lets make some happen!
Enjoy! More to come! How about some Huberka STAY TUNED!
