Multiple Calls for Artists in our area, from Kadie

don't forget to look up details on the 4th annual Patterson Repertory Art and Wine Festival, in Patterson, published in article here on Modesto famous. Happy birthday Mojo, art is alive in Stanislaus County.

Here at the gallery, we receive numerous calls for artists from art groups, galleries, and various organizations. Rather than just throwing them away or laying them on a table to get lost in the paperwork jungle, I'm going to send out e-blasts every week or two (depending on how many notices I receive) listing sale and exposure opportunities.

:note from jim:  I'm also a member of CCAA, get the emails from Kadie who is on our friends list here. CCAA could also use more members, volunteers, membership is $55 annually.  There are some member shows, still costs to enter, but helps keep the gallery alive with new art, artists, art lovers to show work in area.

--MODESTO CERTIFIED FARMER'S MARKET will host an annual event entitled "Undiscovered Genius": an art sale on Saturday, June 14th from 7AM – Noon at our local farmer's market on 16th street between H and I Streets in the library parking lot. In addition to art, the market will provide day-long musical entertainment and restaurant demonstrations. This event is meant to promote up and coming artists and to provide them an opportunity to display and sell their art at a minimal cost. This will also allow the community to develop awareness of the vast amount of undiscovered talent in our area. All artists of all mediums are welcomed to reserve a 10' x 10' space for $30. Spaces can be covered and/or backed, however, these will not be provided. Entry form, payment info, and further details are attached to this email in PDF format. Space is limited, so apply soon. For more information on the event, call Marie Uber (Events Coordinator) at 209.605.8536.

--And don't forget to enter the 55TH ANNUAL SPRING SHOW here at the Mistlin Gallery. This is our BIGGEST show of the year and is looked forward to by many artists, patrons, and art lovers. The show will be kicked off our celebrated Spring Show Gala Reception on May 9th, 2008 which will include an awards ceremony, food, raffle, and a chance to mingle with fellow CCAA members and community sponsors. --Also, get prepared to enter "Mixology", our member show accompanying an exhibit by Mary Scheinuck and Don Hall in June of 2008. Now is the time to start creating works representing your interpretation of the theme "mixology" (and it doesn't necessarily have to do with the science of mixing drinks, folks!). Prospectuses will be available at a time nearer to the event.

Here are a couple more opportunities for everyone. Also, Petra (our website guru) has created a "call for artists" page on the website, so all of this information (and more) can be found at www.ccartassn.org.

-ATTENTION CRAFTERS: Reserve a spot at the Pre-Mother's Day craft and art fair to help the Visually Impaired Persons Support Center. If you would like to be included on the list of vendors for our Mother's Day Craft Fair, please start crafting or painting or sewing and then attend an informational meeting at our center on March 22nd at 10:00 am. Come see the center and save your spot. This will be a fun event for shoppers and a great opportunity for crafters and artists to sell their products. Items for sale do not have to be handmade, just nice quality.  Face painters, musicians, artists who want to paint at their booth, and food vendors are also needed… the only thing asked is that you make a small donation to the center of your profits (who could pass up supporting such a worthy cause?!) If possible, email Ruth McKinsey at ruth@mrmckinsey.com  or at 578-6788 and let her know if you can attend.

--Kaiser Medical is looking for artists from the Stanislaus and San Joaquin counties and Tracy area that have 2-dimensional, unframed, unstretched artwork to go on display from the last part of March through the beginning of April. Artists should have their work ready by March 21-24. The works are not commissioned, but this would be a good opportunity to have a broad range of people from the community see your artwork. For more information, contact Beth Jones, the Kaiser Art consultant, via www.jayjayart.com or call 916-453-2999.

Enjoy the rest of your Monday afternoon!
