The State Theatre has offered up a great opportunity for local artists to display their work, in historic art deco multi faceted venue, and we like to keep the displays interesting, open to more artists, different media, fun event, so we're looking for more artist participation. This month the music switches to acoustic jazz and blues by Joe Barretta and John Ady. Penny Meyer will be painting while her art also on display, a new feature this month.
If you have ideas, or work to display, or can help us with posters, including those of other State Theatre events, not sure, but want to share your portfolio shots, read the following.
State Theatre Art Walk event is seeking artists, with art, for display in variety of media for the Once a Month, four hour show at the State Theatre, as part of the Downtown Modesto Third Thursday Art Walk event. This month, artist Penny Meyer will be doing a painting demonstration during our show.
The State Theatre offers staff support during the show, opening the venue, concessions open, volunteers at the door, giving artists the opportunity to show their work, for display, and for sale, on an arrange participation basis. Videos and film work is arranged with the State Theatre for showing, art displays through contact with Jim Christiansen, host artist who rents the easels from Mistlin Gallery, and sets up our music guests.
Set up is in the State Theatre lobby, with the Theatre open for what tour of the historic Art Deco venue, or film or video shorts displayed on the screen, our music guests, in the lobby area at the front doors, typically limits us to about eight easel displayed pieces per artist, to a minimum of one. We have some table space available for smaller or sculptural, jewelry type or you tell us what is needed basis. This is a showcase event, sales have happened, our purpose to display art in the community, support the Downtown Third Thursday Art Walk event.
So far, each month to date, we have had artists bring in portfolio, samplings of their work for future shows, and is encouraged, as if a spot open, you might join us right then. The State Theatre is a great networking spot.
Please send in a jpg or web link to your work, and size requirements for display arrangement, so we can work out details of the show prior to Third Thursday.
