Art scene, art walk, art and wine, how do we improve it?

As my main thing is art, and have been doing art walk event at State theatre, have to come up with artists, ideas in presentation, get the poster out if we have the info right, perhaps to some post a bit much, to see if the art gets up, gets shown, gets seen, once in awhile a sale.

State Show, I added music guest, we're interactive in the lobby, but Sue has had films, we have all that theatre, so that's now in, and this month we added the free cookies and cider, still have concessions open.

After Art Walk Party, go over pretty well, of course we have usual shows in town, but Fat Cat has shown Will, Off the Air Shows, there is the recent Handborn show at Deva and Concetta with Fashion Parade and a crowd, I've done little shows with Keena Wells at Queen Bean, others have, we've done with Chartreuse Muse friends the Symphony Gala, places to show, or work as artists, or just hang out, bit of wine or beer, cookies, do art while showing.

Greg suggested maybe musicians make the venues, do the tip jar thing, fine with me, but I'm only one stop on the walk, and I didn't originate it, but been walking it since it started. I liked the Downtown Sampler idea, Lamplighter Tour, art walk, as actually way to circulate among friends, and if you do it, see its not quite so much a hassle downtown as sometimes perceived, especially prior to 10 pm.

For third month, I was artist at two venues on art walk, this time Act of Kindness, and some new people over to shop, good thing, other times, was in the Mistlin show while doing State. Act of Kindness on that South side of art walk, CCAA the main show usually, but I always go by Bead shop, see what else going on, note the art at Restaurants, but that's me. I'm one of the displaying artists again, after ten years out of the house. What do you other artists, downtown attendees, audience folks, think might help besides maps out on time.

obviously need more audience and art patrons

Glad to see AngryF photo, and comments on food, and stuff from Patterson Rep, a good place to go see live theatre, post of favorite in our area Prospect Theatre Project latest show, opens Nov 23, while MJC theatre being remodeled, and that article on http://www.modestobuzz.com made letters to editor today on MJC music not playing Gallo Center as scheduled, due to liability assignment negotiations, between Yosemite Community College District and Gallo Center for six months, have to play elsewhere, must be same as construction schedule delay and County vs contractor pay off. The problem for MJC orchestra, sometimes similar to issue on Art Walk, when do galleries take a month off..... issues of the maps, why its easier sometimes, but for my show at State Theatre, for you to see them during daylight business hours at times.

So more advance notice on maps needed. Rumor has it, and I was spending my life drawing Chartreuse Muse money, that's tonight, with Jack Morris, showing over at Wanderlust while down at Clayton's and got the news Mistlin may not be doing Third Thursday this month, and reason, slacking attendance in recent years, doing the reception Dec 7, obvious Pearl Harbor observance, as up against Tara Tinsley opening for David Benoit Charlie Brown Christmas show at State.

I hope that's not the case, we're planning Blue Thursday, with Joe Barretta and John Ady, acoustic sets, jazz, blues, and hoping Bee will not send Adrian Mendoza off to UC Davis again, so he can be in our show, so as Blue Monday players, part of the music, and we may have guests, we'll check on who else is open, as I know Sofie and Ramona taking month off, but got friends interested in visiting the store, but getting folks to go down G or H off the one way streets, you guys think that side is spooky, is tough.

Degenerate Gallery, had interest from Chris Murphy if we know when they'll do the December show, and got back from Melanie they might open up again one night for current political issues show, end of the month. Adrian Mendoza asked me about that, as we both missed it, our kind of art show.

Oh, Chris Murphy, nice guy, makes art walk, Tubes, and Modesto View, asked if I'd be a contributor on visual arts, so accepted offer to email him more. He's doing the December Round up issue, year in everything, xmas to new year's schedule, so get to him soon, new issue being wrapped up. events@modestoview.com So I may have opportunity to report in our bigger than Scene to me, Music, Arts, mag monthly, and wish I could crack Stanislaus Mag, second mention of Rachel Renae, who opens for Kid Charlemagne at Clayton's.....note, costs money. Had 85 in the house at one point last night durig Blue Monday, good sixty most of the night, and changeover. JB was by for a bit, out of class early, gave me one of our ModestoArtx calendars I gave to Mitch, and for all the years Mitchell has seen my bar napkins and cartoon sketches, first time in color, se got to go down and talk.

If you'd like a modestoartx calendar, $10 from JB, for our mental health related art project with NAMI Stanislaus, the Peer to Peer Recovery Art Project, johnb@jbpresents.com That effort in town is succeeding on many fronts, for the friends we're working with, us, the volunteers and I've had one of those problems, stopped me even doing art for five years, but we're off to do a presentation in Sacramento in February, and up to the Crest Theatre for Talent Show with related group Dec 7, so I'll miss this Mistlin reception, likely David Benoit. I must be contributing to phenomenon, sometimes other events take you from art openings.

From poster running experience, I do know that it helps to get the posters out and online bulletins two weeks ahead of an event in Modesto, even if a regular event, especially with the many other events going on any given Thursday Night in Modesto. ITs no longer some unheralded show at Fat Cat, a Deva after Art Walk party and Art Walk, there is often a lot going on, or like in September, for some reason a lot of places closed early. It actually helps to have more than one type of event shown downtown to get the crowd out, menu of choices getting back to mojo comments on steak gone sushi.

Irene from Queen Bean, over to Blue Monday last night, we were talking maybe open mic poetry or slam too, and what events we might do art, me or someone else, and got to talking a bit about Claude's Popsongromance shows.....

I mentioned to the artists showing over at Wanderlust, this thing I read here on the great debate since Tony left, and they knew nothing of it, what's that got to do with us, and our art we want to have shown? Tony also wanted art shown there, ok, it is, by folks not even in the debate, so when you debaters, bitch, you know, remember, artists may be noncombatants, great shows unseen.

Mistlin I hope will be open for Third Thursday as usual, but they've also had a shortage of volunteers at times. I'm a member, but I'm renting easels (income to ccaa for blues fest, state shows) and up doing the state theatre third thursday, some of the artists ccaa members, so I can't do it. But this is the members show that will be up, the spot between Thanksgiving through xmas and kwaanza, New Years, so its got a lot of breaks in being open, anyway, they need volunteers, but as a member, sort of glad I didn't put mine there, though I like idea of Figuratively Showing, I"m not lost in it. I heard from friends while at Clayton's, they are in it, and hope you'll check it out, as some not seen before here in town.

So, we got art, drama, politics, artists, we do poetry as well as music, saw Carl Robinson last night, plays Mistlin now and again, but audience, and volunteers to keep them doors open at the nonprofits, such I drafted Eric Benson if possible for show..... great xmas party, more of the crowd, as music and art should be good at the state, and follows Theme THursday, Babes in Toyland/March of the Wooden Soldiers, with crafts bazaar in lobby 2 hours prior to showtime, what we've been serving up in art, though film society had their silent auction on Movie Posters, this past Sunday, so Art happens at State, art films, poster art, crafts and jewelry, paintings and all.

Add comments though, we are working to improve the art walk experience, and if we weren't doing any of it this month, the postings keep you thinking art while we're not open. Use the MAP for shopping, these are local business owners, local artists.

But, come back to forum posted by me, see, like my latest blogs on art stuff, no comments, where is Bonilla Wafer?

Mistlin will not be open for Art Walk Dec 20, but open Dec 1

Gallery is going to be open, reception likely Dec 1, and not open for Third Thursday Art Walk this month. So no conflict on the Dec 7, Dec 8 Shows at State Theatre, where Be david Benoit, Charlie Christmas, Tara Tinsley to open, following, Christmas show, live theatre atate matinee performancs, and Ill List Poetry Slam Dec 8 evening.

So, updating the map as we go, now you see what Carl has to do to get the map out. Carl Anderson and Anderson gallery working on new web site link.

Checked out Clayton's this morning, http://www.claytonrestaurant.com

Now, just to remind modestofamous readers, I'm a volunteer doing this poster running and online posters for the State Theatre, Modestoartx, and I don't get paid by Clayton's or Eric Benson, sometimes do with what we do with Blues Festival, but I am a partner, been a sponsor with the Blues Festival and JB Presents stuff, so what I post on events, is just stuff I come across. Helps get some poster work, or sell some watercolors, or helps our some friends, doing the shows, promoting them, or performing in them, or being seen.

Figuratively Speaking I think was a good theme for Gaye to have, and hope to see it when its up, so use that art walk map during December on your lunch hour, or when folks open, see some art, maybe buy a piece. jim

Chartreuse Muse life drawing tonight...... I usually don't eat the sushi at Orient House, more into the Chinese side of the menu. My art has shown or been up at minnie's where I used to do some of the tee shirt designs, often printed by often known as singer Penny White, Tees to Please.
