i am a 47 year old male that grew up in this town.i must be very picky -i only goto events downtown about 2 times a year.i usually listen to xm radio-80's alternative or xm chill.last weekend i was in tahoe-the george clinton parlament/funkadelic show was very good.weekend before-girl friend likes country&western-saw brookes&dunn/alan jackson at concord pavillion.there has been nothing held at the new gallo theater that would interest me.am i kind of twisted or do other people share this point of view?

You should give local artists a chance...

There is a lot of great talent around here. This Saturday I'll be playing at Wanderlust Cafe, which is located at 1508 10th street, on the corner of 10th and Needham. Andy Cervantes from the California Bass Alliance will also be playing with me that night with a special guest as well. Hope you can make it out! The show starts @ 7 p.m.

You can check out my music at: www.myspace.com/rachelrenaemusic

-There are also a list of other events to check out as well.

Another great event to check out is the Sunday Night Open Mic Night at Queen Bean Cafe, and the Monday Night Blues Jam Session at Clayton's, and of course don't forget the third thirsday ART WALK at the state theater.

You should come out and see what everyone is talking about. If you say your picky, then that's perfect because there is plenty to choose from. :)

Much luv & God Bless.

Thanks Rachel & all of you

Thanks Sister, ya there is so much going on out there. From the Shows at Wanderlust on one end to the shows at Semplicita on the other end. Oh & of course our friends at Claytons & the wonderful ladies at Deva. Luv Ya!

Blues and others good at the State for concerts

The Gallo Center is in first year, still testing the booking I think, and pricing has come down on the cheap seats.

The State theatre has been a sell out for Dave Mason, who had surprise Daniel Castro Band to open, blues does well there as does classic rock. Tommy Castro Band with locals Rhythm Deluxe sold out, as did Joe Bonnamassa. Country, haven't seen much in area lately. Jazz, Steve Oliver show was great, not a sell out, but good attendance.

The Tubes show was great..... so check the state, it does also have some other classics, its a fun house to play, also to be in, beer and wine and concessions fairly easy even on a sold out night, the special events.

For close to town, not quite to Tahoe, see Westside Theatre in Newman, they book interesting stuff, local and outside real talent.

As far as size of the theatre, Gallo is new, its greater capacity, likely with some underwriting, some of the acts you hope get to Modesto may make it. Fat Cat has booked some I wanted to see, from out of town, and been good on local talent as well. I'm 53, so I may not be as twisted, bit more gas conscious perhaps with the ever climbing pricing, so a stay at home entertainment junkie.

Check the State Theatre website, they do have an email function there for show suggestions. Suggest what you want to see, perhaps it can be arranged. http://www.thestate.org

Might as well ask, any other country western, bluegrass fans, classic or current folks out there. Where would you go for that around here these days. Back Country Horsemen of California Rendezvous in Turlock will feature David Langley out of Bakersfield at that very much western equestrian related event. http://www.jbpresents.com over Easter Weekend, will also have a few local artists playing the venues there at Stanislaus County Fairgrounds, likely the next closest real venue for bands, or Stan State in the County.
