Mental Health Board chair seeking younger, diverse applicants

This morning readers will find a letter to the Modest Bee editor by me, on current legislative and Governor's policy regarding State wide Mental Health policy. To get a handle on this, you may have to do some research if interested in Prop 63 and its Mental Health Services Act implementation, and AB 2034, which addresses mental health, and homeless and at risk folks.

Last night I attended the NAMI Stanislaus regular education and speaker meeting at 800 Scenic, held every fourth Wednesday of the month at 6:30 pm. I happen to also teach sessions of their Peer to Peer relapse prevention and MH education class, new class starting June 30, one week after blues festival.

A portion of last nights meeting, presented by Stanislaus County Citizens Advisory on Mental Health, chairperson Shirley Foerster. Among her topics, the Mental Health Board, 15 citizens, who review, advise, study and work on MH policy, services, is looking for greater diversity in its composition, seeking applicants, for younger late teens, asian and other ethnicities, and 20 percent of the board is composed of family or caregiver members, 20 percent client members,

If interested, contact Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, or look at the openings on MH board posted at 1010 Tenth Street bulletin board, as this is an interview reviewed position, submitted to the Board of Supervisors for appointment, and quite important, as BHRS is one of the largest County government operations in services in our community.

Mental Health Board monthly meetings are open to the public, has public comment time available, and is held the Fourth Thursday of the Month, including this evening at 5 pm, Redwood Room, 800 Scenic Drive, modesto.

This is National Schizophrenia Awareness Day.
