Sunday shooting victims total eight in Modesto area

The Bee is reporting that eight (you read that right) people were shot in Modesto and the surrounding area on Sunday.

The scariest part of this in my opinion is that one of the shootings took place at the Vintage Faire mall. This is the mall where my wife and I shopped tonight and where I take my children. Is it me or is violence in this area getting just plain scary?

Shootings

Yeah, it's concerning. I, with my husband and daughter, live 2 blocks from the Heritage Inn. My girls go to the Mall too. We for the first time feel unsafe in our quiet neighborhood. There also has been a couple home invasions in our our city. Do we blame our law enforcement, our gangs, or our downspiraling morals and lack of family values? Whatever it is, we have taken to locking our gates, double locking doors, and are extra cautious, but we will not alter our actions or live in fear.

shootings

it's sad. i don't think we can blame the law enforcement, they are not mind readers and can not read the future... i think its stupuid people doing stupid things, for stupid reasons. the good question is why?

shootings

take into account that the bay area is much more expensive then here, and a large influx of families from there are now here, and the more people who have children (w/o as much to do as once thought), alongside absent, commuting parents- um, yeah, blame law enforcement on some level, but they are as prepared and overreactionary as possible and yet it is not enough. guns are in hands, and frankly, at this point, they should be in everyone's. marshell law has been declared here before- it isn't paranoia- the reality is that the more people you have, the more crime. duh.

Kids and guns

Last night I was at the mall before I knew about the shootings and I saw a kid who could not have been more than 12 wearing an Eazy-E t-shirt. The t-shirt featured a massive graphic image of the rapper holding a pistol in each hand and aiming outward.

Now, I have a daughter about the age of this kid and there is no way in hell that I would tolerate her wearing anything like that. Parents focusing on and guiding their children more would really help in my opinion.

I feel as though the past

I feel as though the past few years Modesto and its surrounding towns are just plain getting unsafe. The sad part is that violence is everywhere, not just in the "ghetto" or whatever you want to call the bad parts of town. It’s happening everywhere. Downtown, hotels, even the mall.

You can’t just blame the police or the commuters, we all have to take part in our community by reporting anything we think it suspicious. Police can’t be everywhere, sometimes we need to be their eyes and their ears.

Hmm Interesting

I find it interesting that it is only the eighth of January and there's already a list of shootings to start the new year. Crime rates seem to rise faster and faster every year lately. What is happening to our beloved Modesto?

It's funny...

It's funny how people only take notice of the violence when it begins to affect them. Where was everybody when the shootings were occuring mostly in the Southside, Westside & Airport? There are still shootings on Crows Landing Road all the time...a street where families and thousands of "innocent" people go to do their shopping. Did I miss the response to those shootings? Or is it just that people seem to care only when the violence affects them?

When did the cops start cracking down on gang violence? When it started leaking into Downtown, North Modesto, and other middle-class neighborhoods that traditionally are not affected by gang activity. So as long as the problem is in the Southside or the Westside or the Eastside it isn't a problem...just let those poor folks worry about themselves. Once it spreads into middle class hoods, then comes the time for "weed & seed"...

i completely agree with the

i completely agree with the above statement. it's sad. but maybe now that so much violance is spreading into the rest of the town we can finally take the steps to remedy this problem.

another thing that bugs me. every time i see a cop i see them pulling some little ricer in a honda civic for a fart can muffler. please... it's annoying but it's not hurting anyone. maybe if the mpd spent half the effort on drugs and gang related activity as they do on ricers... ya know, we just might get somewhere.

i dont approve of street racing at all. if i feel like if want to drive fast i'll take my car to the track. you cant even compare the amount of deaths by racing and gang activity.
