Support food 4 music, Queen Bean Dec 8, and other festive ideas
I put this comment to the notice of the event. Thought I'd emphasize the thought for xmas cheer, as not only Queen Bean a favorite for me to go, I have some cans of food ready.
I also have Prospect Theater doing A Christmas Carol, production I've worked on elsewhere in Riverside, seen many times in LA, SF, glad to see the spirit of Charles Dickens and Tiny Tim and Scrooge working here. Prospect Theater is down the Street, one of many venues I'd like to see or work with, as I love live theater.
Anyway, from the graceada Park performance art project archives, as an artist or musician, set builder, you can do things for the community.
We've done an exhibition at midnight, in 1994, unauthorized GPPAP artists borrowed Mancini Bowl for overnight gallery exhibition, left unattended overnight, on a bet. No art taken from us, but the post cards, and some brochures with help ful information to take, help stay warm, including some shelter designs from recycled stuff from experience dumpster divers.
Some of us did posters for charities who just picked from phone book, or we say someone we knew at, went in, did something for them.
Write a story about it, send it around to friends, possible other donors.
Friend accidently left some of her inventory in peanuts out at the store seh worked, on the window sill like part of display, was left a flower and seven cents, thank you note. She did it on purpose, used to do help serve dinner at the mission.
Glad to see this one posted. I'll see if I can drop some cans off, as I put up a similar blog. I donated some harps to friends in the dumpster dive union, some play guitar. There are all sorts of ways to help friends. Appreciate what music friends and Queen Bean doing for the folks and our community.
When I was out at SBHC, I sort of snuck on to the piano in the cafeteria. They let me play, helped me get out. I've done some shows, Johnny and Kelly at for JB PResents assist public awareness fro Mental Health. Perhaps a bit of a show could be done like Dave Kiesz is doing in Sacramento.
for info on that contact John Black, http://www.JBPresents,com what they're doing up there this Christmas, as he keeps asking if I want to go. Dave's a friend of ours, play Day of Hope at Seasons, satirist, musician songwriter. Benefit gigs help others of our friend in music, art, poems, theater, or just stage crew, get it back together, Recovery from finances, mental health, drug and alcohol.
I suggested the staff at SBHC get that piano tuned, I might be back.
They did, pulled money out of pocket. They do an art therapy group at Wellness Recovery on 12 th Street near SpeakEasy. Staff says they believe in Music therapy, put them to the test, as I got my guitar in last time.
I do posters for support groups. Neighborhood Watch. Still do concert work with JBPresents, and out of town players.
The volunteer, county warm line needs some folks who can refer people to services, listen to problems. MJC human services students, there are opportunities in mental health and homeless services, ask Dr. Kennard, she's on the mental health board too.
I still get calls from being the former resource officer of SCMHC, though I'm not on the roster anymore. Sharing information, as important as anything else, or sometimes, not being mad when that call comes at 3 am, makes it so someone gets through the night, so we can see them again.
