It is so cold. Can you help someone out a bit?

When I went to bed last night it was 39 degrees outside based on a report from Google weather that I get on my cell phone. This morning it is also very, very cold outside. I opened the door for the Chihuahua to go do her business this morning and she looked at me like I was nuts. Luckily she is litter box trained. She hates the cold.

Anyway, I was able to crawl into a thick bed of sheets and blankets and sleep on a pillow-top mattress last night. I was warm and comfortable and it was a great feeling. What I should have done is take a few of my blankets downtown and pass them out to people that were sleeping on concrete beds and park benches.

If you have the desire to help someone help this year, please do. Click here to read a blog entry posted by one of our regular readers. He offers suggestions and ideas and even a great poem.

It is the Christmas season folks and nobody in a town with this much money should be hungry or cold. A pack of socks at Target would cost you $5.00 but they would be a worth a fortune to a man or woman with cold feet.

Have a great day out there! Bundle up. Come out to the OFF the Air show tonight and say hello.

-Mojo

Good call.....

Everyone can afford to help out a bit...I'll be there tonight with Alba....we'll look for you

OFF THE AIR IS BORRING. It's

OFF THE AIR IS BORRING. It's always the same "indie" type music that makes people want to sleep. A non energetic show with maybe 6 bands in rotation, that all sound the same. Maybe thats why not as many people are comming out to these shows as they did when Off the Air first started.. It's ALWAYS the same show. And the same 40 people show up. No Thanks.

No Rock
No Hip-Hop
No Soul

thanks, another donation note

thanks for commment on donation ideas and poem Mojo. Quite a lot of charities in area to work with, noted my neighborhood watch person works with Second Harvest, have friends who use food banks, etc, all year around, not just xmas season.

just had a little informatl meeting here with some other NAMI Stanislaus members, to note there will be a resumption of the clothing drive, for folks who came in from the cold, or taken on out to Stanislaus Behavioral Center, without socks, etc, a long time deal, as was the old donations to Sunshine Place now closed.

Clothes can be arranged to drop off at the NAMI Stanislaus office, which is near the Redwood Room at Behavioral Health, 800 Scenic, or ask Patient's Rights, for office location, of Stanislaus Chapter of Mental Health Consumers, in building 4 at the Empowerment Center, same address as they've been sorting the clothes, take them out to SBHC. This is a volunteer thing, done by clients, family members, to help the money strapped County with this sort of thing. I believe the phone no. is 529-6880 for National Alliance for the Mentall Ill, Stanislaus.

As for Off the Air, to me entertainment is not boring. Without the promoters like Off the Air, Chris Ricci, JB Presents, Eric Benson, there would be a void. If you need more diversity, more metal, more hip hop, more Britney, get in the promotion business and bring it to Modesto. I work tickets, or posters, or set up crew, not just to see acts, to see that they get here, come back again.

I like what that comment said, we still don't have enough music, enough art, enough poetry slams, enough theater, or enough paying patrons, so that Solar Power People, others get paid for the fun. I play a bit, would and usually do so for nothing, but I got my bills covered. You want bands to play more, leave those day jobs, set up the money for those concerts, and buy tickets

Tayler...

While it would be good for Off the Air to spread its wings and bring in some of the more exciting indie acts from northern california, it is by far the only thing that ever happens in this town that doesn't make me ashamed to live in Modesto. I don't know you, so I'm going to assume that you are one of the mouth breathers with meticulously-styled facial hair who frequent every Modesto bar and club, or one of the ugly sluts for whom they buy tequila shots. You people are the reason that this place only brings in has-beens, wash-ups and all-around bad music - because morons like you actually go to those shows. I bet you already have your ticket to see f-ing Smashmouth for the christmas concert. Jesus christ, it makes my head hurt to think about it.

The ironic thing is that even if the cream of the indie crop, the best music being made today by new, fresh artists, played off the air, people like you would still call it boring "indie" music, and the show probably wouldn't sell out. Yet, if Vanilla Ice played another show (I bet he will, too) you'd go to it, scream like a little girl when he played "ice ice baby," and further buried any chances of this city ever being anything but a vapid cultural wasteland.

If I'm wrong, and you're not one people, you're still an idiot. The last thing this city needs is more DJs and bar bands puking out mindless top-40 hip hop, rock and soul. It needs more (albeit better) "indie type music" that makes people like you fall asleep.

I hate this town and I want to die.

Wow, Tayler voices his

Wow, Tayler voices his opinion and people jump all over him. Thats why no one posts on this bias site. If you go against the Modesto Famous grain..you get called an idiot. Sad.

Winter isn't my season... but.... Fat Cat has Toys for Tots!

I agree Mojo... the winter isn't a whole lot of fun... and my dogs don't like it much either. My lab/doby mix especially doesn't like it. If he gets anything resembling moisture on his feet then he freaks out and licks his feet for hours afterward. Its kind of funny actually.

Who knows maybe someday I'll get a place to flee winter in Central America or something! That would be good times indeed..

Anyway, just thought I would add here that Fat Cat is pitching in with the Marines to promote their Toys for Tots program this year. Starting on December 8th if you bring a toy to the club you don't pay a cover. Its a great way to spread some cheer to a lot of needy kids and feel good that you helped out this holiday season!

Here's a little flyer for you...

back again

thanks efren for note in my blog Mojo linked to. Off the Air, happen to think they're into it, but always room for more "producers" of events, music any kind, theater, art stuff, poets. Indie is great to me, but not everyone has same tastes. Ask homeless guys, source of blues music, or Woody Guthrie, usually played around here by Steve Ewert of old California Zephyr. Love Dave Hanley band, but some want what's never mentioned here, yuck, CW, country......my former room mate, blues freak, jazz, classical, her thing though was Country. Bring it on, so we all have a place to play.

Bad mouthing the audience as sluts, etc, ain't doing it guys. Remember Michael Richard's rant for career melt down.

Anyway, thanks for friends remembering we got diverse population in town these days,

Diversity..

For Certain Bro, That’s what makes us a better community… Diversity.. Me’ I always went to the beat of my own drum.. It’s 128BPM at least for me.. Been mixing longer then most of these young pups been driving.. but still, always have the respect & love to encourage all… Here’s a little sample of what works for me.. http://thequakedj.com/Pet_Shop_Boys_My_Fugitive_Brother.mp3
