Modesto Famous is a web site dedicated to cataloging, exploring, and discovering life in Modesto. We organize articles, blog posts, and event listings created by users and the Famous staff with the hope of making Modesto a better place to live. Everyone is welcome to contribute their Modesto-related content.
Feel free to browse around the site- click on a few tags (or keywords) to get an overview of that topic. Browse by neighborhood to get a feel for that community. When you are ready to post content, you must create an account.
Yes, however please familiarize yourself with our Terms of Service. Comments in violation can be deleted or edited without warning. We want people to feel safe on Modesto Famous, and encourage productive discussions. We also want people to stand behind their comments and information, so know that comments from registered users will be taken much more seriously.
In the left navigation box, click on "My Account." Select the edit tab and enter your new password. Hit submit and you're all done.
At the log in screen, click "Request a new password." A temporary password will be sent to your email.
On your profile page, click on "edit." Then click on "Personal Information" There you can upload your photo and share your personal website and other details. To change the settings of your blog, click on "Blog Settings." Here you can give your blog a different name, and add links to your blogroll.
Click on "Create Content" in the left navigation box. Then select the appropriate content type.
A blog post can be whatever you want it to be - your commentary, a restaurant review, an announcement about your business or nonprofit, a report on the traffic build up on 168. An article is a story or interview you've vetted and researched. Articles are listed at the top of the home page and tag pages. Modesto Famous editors promote the most interesting articles to Top Stories.
You do. You maintain total control over the content you post to the site, and are free to edit or delete as you see fit. By posting to the site however, you grant Modesto Famous certain rights- like the ability to use your content in promotional materials. Please review the Terms of Service for more information.
Modesto Famous editors are on the lookout for informative, entertaining, or unique blog posts, articles, and events. They'll promote what they think is most interesting to the front page.
Yes! A picture's worth a thousand words, and we encourage you to post an accompanying photo with your article. You can upload it directly to the site. Use your favorite image editing software to make sure your photo is 50k or less in size and meets maximum dimensions of 300 x 400 pixels.
Yes! You may upload a 150 x 150 pixel image to your event listing. You may also use the img tag in event description field.
You can link to your images hosted elsewhere, like on Flickr, on your blog. If you are comfortable with some HTML, you may use the img tag. We'e working on adding image upload capabilities to blogs soon.
Adding users to your buddy list will allow you to easily view all their recently posted content. To add a user to your buddy list, click on the user's name to view their profile, and select add to buddy list. To view all the most recent content from your buddies, click on "My Buddylist" in the left navigation menu. Adding a user to your buddylist does not automatically add you to theirs.
Sure. Click on the user's name to view their profile, then select "Send a private message."
Yes. Click on the orange XML button at the bottom of every page for its feed URL. You may subscribe to feeds by tag, user, blog, etc.
We think everyone should have their own blog. Modesto Famous is a place to share your news and information relating to Modesto with a wider audience. So please keep blogging away at MySpace, Blogger, or your own site, and share your Modesto posts with us. Add the feed to your blog to the Modesto Famous aggregator so other community members can check it out.
