Starbucks kills another one.. Another small family's dream killed by corporate america
So its official per their Myspace Page. Clix cafe is closed for good.
I feel such a loss and sadness that washes over me. There were two buisnesses in the last two years I saw build and open from basicly the ground up.. The Nines and Clix. Due to my buisness dealings with both these buisness's I saw everything from intereior buliding, employee hiring to excitemtent when products were delivered and opening day!.
It is so very sad that two such great dreams have been crushed. Clix was a great place ran by a great family! Having a teenage son who is a video game addict this place was Heaven on Earth for Gamers and the coffee was great too! So from me to you Robin and Family... It was a great run and we are sorry to see you go.
Another one bites the dust!
So I was scanning through my bullitians on Myspace the other day and a bullitian from the Nines caught my eye. I figured it was going to happen eventually but hell 6 months?!! Yes..the Nines is now closed. The bullitian stated it was their last night and they were having insane drink specials to get rid of all the booze. Im sad right now. Not just because they didnt make it but becuase I really liked the place. I personally watched grow from the ground up. I happen to have a close friend who was the General Contracter on the job. He and his brother put in that amazing red wall with their own hands. The lighted bar they created was BEAUTIFUL. And I Personally crawled up on top of the back of that bar to hook up their internet connection for their Clearwire Hotspot and set up the one in the office behind the kitchen. I very much enjoyed dropping by on occation for an afterwork cocktail and half a crab at the bar. Yes they were expensive but the food was good. I think Mikes biggest mistake was the way they set up the seating inside. While it was amazing looking there wasnt enough seating to turn around enough people to make a profit. And of course there was the dance permit issue he got mixed up into with all the others downtown. So after 1505 closing, Mallards last week and now this I just I am just going to have to wait for that new Firkin English pub to find something I am comfortable just hanging out at. Man this just sucks!
Dammit!! Where is Dan Costa when I need him!
So after reading about all this Mallards Fiasco in the paper I have been holding my breath.. PLEASE DONT CLOSE..PLEAAAAAASE DONT CLOSE!!! and today..it happened. Mallards is gone..the idiot that bought it screwed it all up! If your going to buy a restruant then pay your bills, take care of your employees and you wont get sentenced to prison..its fairly simple really..
DAN COSTA I AM BEGGING YOU.. BUY THE RESTRAUNT BACK!! I WILL RUN IT FOR YOU!! hehe Im pretty sure its not going to cost a whole lot..hahha I ABSOLUTLY can not believe that when I want a PHENONMINAL Sunday brunch with all the crab legs I can eat Mallards will not be there for me. Now im going to have to go to the Fruit Yard or the Doubletree which are Mediocre at best.. :( I am soooo going to miss my fresh strawberry crepes made in front of me..
I am now officially in mourning.... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

I you loved Journey I can tell you this is no ordinary Tribute Band. I brought over 20 people to the show and EVERY SINGLE one of them who saw them for the first time told me they LOVED IT!. Aquanett was soo much fun! They belted out Highway to hell, Girls Girls Girls, Ratt, Poison, Bonjovi Metallica etc... hit every one on the head and had people dancing in the Asiles the entire night! If you ever get a chance to see either of these bands you have GOT TO MAKE THE TIME FOR IT! It is more fun than you could ever imagine! I am still getting thank you's over and over again for convincing even the synical Mojo to go. And he was also blown away! People dressed up in their old 80's gear and had one hell of a night! Sorry if ya missed it but... its never too late!!
A sad goodbye to the former DA and my friend...James Brazelton
I recieved a call yesterday shortly after his death and was stunned by it. This morning there is an article about him in the Modesto Bee..
I read the article and his politics and work were a HUGE part of his life.. however. I never had any dealings with him that way.. I knew Jim.. Jim the man. Jim who went to Donobys and Ridgeways just to hang with the Normal people in the late afternoons before going home. He could be a shit when he wanted to.. a big one. You never wanted to cross him.. but he was one of the sweetest men I had ever met. If you were his friend...you were his friend for life. He would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it and for that I am sad. We are short a truly wonderful human being. I wish we had more like him. Please dont get me wrong when I tell you how I knew him..Jim was not a bar hopper, he wasnt a womanizer or a drunk, he just liked to hang with people and he was comfortable in that enviroment. I think he just wanted to feel normal. He was tired of all the publicity and drama and wanted to be just one of us..the little people.
He was a wonderful listener and a wonderful human being. When I first met him several years ago I had no idea who he was. I just thought "what a nice guy". Everytime I saw him he greeted me with a big hug and called me "Blondie". When I realized just who "Jim" was a few months after I had met him I was floored. He didnt act like most of the stuffy lawyers I had known..he was just one of the guys.
My condolances go out to his family and other friends. I was proud to be called a friend and I know they must be devestated because I am.
He gave the best hugs and they will be missed desperatly.
Heres the article.
James Brazelton, the man who ran the Stanislaus County district attorney's office for nine years and led the prosecution team that convicted double-murderer Scott Peterson, died Monday afternoon at Memorial Medical Center in Modesto. He was 66.
His death came as a shock to his former second-in-command, Assistant District Attorney Carol Shipley, who rushed to the intensive care unit in the late afternoon to find that he had died.
Shipley said she saw Brazelton at a Lions Club meeting a week ago and believed he was in good health and high spirits. He had been in the hospital for a few days, but she said she did not know what caused his death.
"He was a tough prosecutor. He was one of the best in the courtroom. And he had a heart of gold when it came to friends and family," she said.
Brazelton resigned in July 2005, saying he had been offered a lucrative position with a San Clemente firm that operates a bad-check collection program.
About two weeks ago, he was spotted in the courthouse handling a civil case. He said he had parted ways with American Corrective Counseling Services Inc. but wanted to stay busy. He quipped that he needed to make money because his wife liked to spend it, a lighthearted comment he frequently shared.
He kept his hand in local politics after he stepped down, supporting chief deputy prosecutor Birgit Fladager, who won the district attorney's seat in a June 2006 election.
He also kept in touch with friends such as Ron Grantski, the longtime companion of Sharon Rocha, Laci Peterson's mother. The first time they met, Grantski and his family were deluged by the media hordes that followed the search for Laci and the trial of her husband, Scott.
Grantski recalled hoping that this cocky son of a gun, Brazelton, knew what he was doing. By the time Peterson was sent to death row for killing his wife and unborn son, he was convinced that Brazelton was a straight shooter who made sure his staff got the job done.
"I could ask him anything, and he never sugar-coated it," Grantski said.
Brazelton died shortly after 4 p.m., leaving behind a wife, Patricia, as well as three sons and a stepson. Shipley said family members may release a statement today. An announcement about funeral arrangements will follow.
News of his death spread quickly in political circles.
"He was an amazing advocate," said Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Ricardo Córdova, a former public defender who used to spar with Brazelton. "He was really passionate in what he believed."
"He had his ups and downs in politics, but he took advice," said former Supervisor Paul Caruso.
A civil grand jury chastised Brazelton twice, accusing him of inappropriate behavior in the prosecutor's office because he allegedly simulated the drawing and firing of a gun while making derogatory comments about two Bee reporters. Brazelton steadfastly denied those claims.
Questions about Brazelton's health swirled in 1999, when his skin tone fluctuated between ashen gray and yellow. Brazelton said he was overmedicated by a physician. His complexion cleared.
By the time he retired, Brazelton had tried 35 murder cases and sent five men to death row. He was best known for prosecuting a cultlike group that committed the 1991 Salida massacre that left four dead. He sent three defendants to death row and the other two to prison for life.
Defense attorney Ernie Spokes said he and Brazelton were known as Frick and Frack when they were deputies in the district attorney's office. They grew more distant when Brazelton became the boss and Spokes moved to the private sector, but memories of the old days, and a mutual admiration, remained.
"He was a hell of a prosecutor, there's no question about that," Spokes said. "When he girded up, it was like Caesar going to war. He was undefeatable."
