Don't miss Travis Vick and others on July 25th

A while back I wrote about a Manteca based singer named Travis Vick and the impact that he has been having on our local music scene. At the tender age of 18, Vick already has over eight years of experience singing and playing various instruments including the piano, guitar, accordion, banjo, bass, mandolin, harmonica, ukulele, trombone, clarinet and drums.

We all have that one friend that can't stop looking in the mirror for more more than a few minutes. Help them now by getting their face the exposure that they want it to have!

Make your friend or yourself a "Famous Person" and be featured on the main page of our site! There is also a very good chance that the person that you submit will be featured in the Scene Magazine in the Modesto Bee on a future Friday! There is no cost for this and it would be a cool way to wish someone a Happy Birthday or other special day.

If you have been holding off buying tickets for X-Fest because you are waiting on a weather report, you probably can go ahead and make that purchase now.

According to Weather.com, the weather for show-time should not exceed 100 degrees and by the time that Simple Plan hits the stage, it should only be slightly above 85 degrees! I really hope that stays on track! That would make for a very nice day.

This is the wrong Summer to say that there is nothing fun to do in Modesto! In addition to the Fiji Festival that I mentioned in my last post, there is a Hawaiian festival coming up as well! This festival will be held at the Modesto Centre Plaza in Modesto, August 9th and 10th.

I was just surfing through our event calendar and I came across an event that looks like it will be a lot of fun! This would be a great event for the whole family to attend to experience the unique culture of the Fiji Islands right here in Modesto!

It is crazy how much that I missed while I was in the hospital! My friend Leah notified me today that Tony Roma's was the latest restaurant to jump ship in Modesto. When did that happen? I loved their burgers and appetizers! Does anyone know if TGI Friday's may still open in the old Mallard's location? With the loss of Roma's, that would sure help me out.

Well, after spending the bulk of June in the hospital in intensive care and having three surgical procedures, I am finally home now. This is my first full day back at home and my oldest daughter has volunteered to help her old man out for a few days. Right now she is spoiling me by preparing a spaghetti dinner!

One of my favorite features of this site is the area in which we display "Famous Photos." These are all user-submitted works and they are all taken from our Flickr.com photo group. I just got a phone call from one of our favorite local photographers, Shootenpicsbob, whose work we feature often. He called to tell me that he had organized a photo expedition heading to Berkley today that will include other members of our photo group.

So there I was at Summerfest on Saturday when all of a sudden I started having stomach pains that I could not not manage. A few hours later, I was on an operating table undergoing major surgery to repair a bowel obstruction and a hernia. How on Earth I ended up in that condition is only known to God above.

Start the weekend off tonight with the Jon Valenti Band live at the Copper Rhino and then party on into the weekend. The Modesto Blues Festival is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 at Graceada Park and B93.1's Summerfest will start up at noon on Saturday as well.

Lauren, my oldest daughter and I rode our bikes downtown today for lunch and ended up having some of the best Mexican food that we have had in this area for a very long time. Senor Fresh Mexican Grill next to Brenden Theater served me my newest addiction, fish tacos and Lauren had a killer quesadilla and the most authentic rice and beans I have tasted since I was last at my moms house.

I wrote about this a while ago but I have to mention it again because the event is finally just a few days away. If you have followed this site for a while you know that we are big fans of local crooner, Jon Valenti. Well, this Thursday night at 9:00 Valenti will take over the Copper Rhino and for the first time he will be accompanied by his new full band.

Something new and exciting is happening downtown tonight and it looks like a great time! Starting at 7:00 (doors open at 6:00) at Concetta restaurant on J Street, Modesto's newest act, The Radiowaves will throw a dance party featuring classic Vaudeville skits and Go-Go performances.
