Elizabeth Ingebretsen paintings of Tunisia, Crow Trading for Art Walk

Jennifer Williams of Crow Trading sent me an email that Elizabeth Ingebretsen will be showing her watercolors from her trip to Tunisia this month August 21 for the Downtown Modesto Third Thursday Art Walk. Crow Trading is next door to DEVA.

Mandala Art will be featured at Act of Kindness, 619 Fourteenth Street, near G, for month of Artist and open art walk night. www.actofkindness.info for more on that show, and contact for the CHSS Community Housing and Shelter Services benefit dinner, art and wine auction fundraiser for CHSS at Seasons, night of August 14. Tickets to that $25

I finished the flyer maps for DID today, and look for Slater's Furniture at 16th and J, as Nicole Slater's art featured there, as newest add on to the art walk.

Art Walk map brochures should be out and available this week, look for the art walk coupons on page four, discount at DEVA art walk night, and two for one drink specials at Clayton's and Tresetti's on the bottom good through end of the month. They'll be available at Modesto Art and Wine Festival, August 16. Claytons' will feature art for art walk, music by eric benson and friends, local artists. Those Brian Swander paintings on wall are available for purchase.

State Theatre, we have Funky Tim as music guest, Mary Scheinuck, Carlos Mendes Salcedo, Jack Morris and me as artists on the set list for Art Walk, and we're only on display and open one night a month. Next month we will feature Printmaking by Karen Cos, Tricia Spenker, Me, Liz Ingebretsen and others September 18, with Steve Kenworthy doing celtic, blues, maybe both for music guest, and hope to see some of his art as well.

Etouffe was last months art walk new entrant. See all the venues on the maps and use them through the month to visit the galleries and places supporting local artist from Stanislaus County.

Farmer's Market will have new art display vendors, arts and crafts for sale, downtown, August 23.

Photographers' Gallery seeking Black & White Entries Aug 8

Note from the Gallery Guru via email. Also note, still time to donate art to CHSS auction in prior blog.

Just a reminder there is still time to submit black and white photographs before the August 8 deadline. The image can be any form of processing - old school, or new. It just has to be black and white and those lovely shades of gray.

Be sure to see our current guest artist exhibit: Tweaked, Untweaked and Textile: A Photographic Exhibition by Adrian Mendoza. This exhibition by the award winning photographer includes a diverse collection of film to digital prints, from traditional landscape and portraits to artistically tweaked images, and images output to cotton fiber tapestries.
Don't miss it!
Exhibition continues through August 15, 2008

Raul Malo at the State Theatre, Wednesday night, August 23

When I delivered the poster to Skip's Music, friend at the counter thought this would be a good one to see. Check it out. State Theatre tomorrow night. If you've not been to a concert or event at the State Theatre, concessions usually open, have beer and wine, sodas, and of course famous popcorn, so consider the comforts of seeing a show at the great icon of downtown modesto theatres. see http://www.thestate.org and sign up for email mailing list for upcoming shows, film, concerts.

EVENT : RAUL MALO IN CONCERT

Raul Malo - former frontman and lead singer for The Mavericks, one of the top country bands of the '90s - is now a successful solo artist whose acoustic concerts reflect not only his Cuban upbringing and country roots but his more fiery influences from calypso and carnival to salsa and jazz. Following the 2006 release of his critically embraced album You're Only Lonely,  Salon.com noted that the gifted singer, songwriter, guitarist and Grammy-winner's recording was "reminiscent of Frank Sinatra's classic late-night albums." Esquire magazine dubbed Malo "the greatest country-rock crooner since Roy Orbison." See Raul Malo at The State in an intimate evening of vocals covering everything from romantic standards and Tex-Mex rock to kitschy '60s cocktail pop to strait-up, traditional Cuban and South American music.
