Save some cash at the pump. $4.16 a gal Ouch
Tips to help you save some $$.
OK so IM about to bust out my scooter that I have had since the 80's. Its been collecting dust in my garage all winter and generally only use it to give the kids in my neighborhood rides up and down my block. But if the price of gas keeps going up, I will bust out my purple leather jacket, plug in the my ipod to Purple Rain and do the Prince thing on my scooter around town. LOL
hey, it seats 2! Smiles :)
It's got room for Abalonia or whatever the heck that chicks name was for the movie "Purple Rain".. Or was it Nicky.. Yikes.. Anyway, this was sent to me from a friend and I thought it was worth posting here.

Tips to help you save some $$.
Tips on pumping gas:
I don't know what you guys are paying for gasoline.... but here
in California we are also paying higher, up to $3.50 per gallon. But
my line of work is in petroleum for about 31 years now, so here are
some tricks to get more of your money's worth for every gallon..
Here at the Kinder Morgan Pipeline where I work in San Jose , CA
we deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period thru the
pipeline. One day is diesel the next day is jet fuel, and gasoline,
regular and premium grades. We have 34-storage tanks here with a total
capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.
Only buy or fill up your car or t
ruck in the early morning when
the ground temperature is still cold. Remember that all service
stations have their storage tanks buried below ground. The colder the
ground the more dense the gasoline, when it gets warmer gasoline
expands, so buying in the afternoon or in the evening....your gallon
is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific
gravity and the temperature of the gasoline, diesel and jet fuel,
ethanol and other petroleum products plays an important role.
A 1-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for this business.
But the service stations do not have temperature compensation at the
pumps.
When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle
to a fast mode. If you look you will see that the trigger has three
(3) stages: low, middle, and high. In slow mode you should be pumping
on low speed, thereby minimizing the vapors that are created while you
are pumping. All hoses at the pump have a vapor return. If you
are pumping on the fast rate, some other liquid that goes to
your tank becomes vapor. Those vapors are being sucked up and back
into the underground storage tank so you're getting less worth for
your money.
One of the most important tips is to fill up when your gas tank
is HALF FULL or HALF EMPTY. The reason for this is, the more gas you
have in your tank the less air occupying its empty space. Gasoline
evaporates faster than you can imagine. Gasoline storage tanks have
an internal floating roof. This roof serves as zero clearance
between the gas and the atmosphere, so it minimizes the
evaporation. Unlike service stations, here where I work, every truck
that we load is temperature compensated so that every gallon is
actually the exact amount.
Another reminder, if there is a gasoline truck pumping into the
storage tanks when you stop to buy gas, DO NOT fill up--most likely
the gasoline is being stirred up as the gas is being delivered, and
you might pick up some of the dirt that normally settles on the
bottom. Hope this will help you get the most value for your money.

WHERE TO BUY USA GAS, THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO KNOW. READ ON
Gas rationing in the 80's worked even though we grumbled about
it. It might even be good for us! The Saudis are boycotting American
goods. We should return the favor.
An interesting thought is to boycott their GAS.
I thought it might be interesting for you to know which oil
companies are the best to buy gas from and which major companies
import Middle Eastern oil.
These companies import Middle Eastern oil:
Shell........................... 205,7 42,000 barrels
Chevron/Texaco......... 144,332,000 barrels
Exxon/Mobil...... ......... 130,082,000 barrels
Marathon/Speedway... 117,740,000 barrels
Amoco............................62,231,000 barrels
Citgo gas is from South America , from a Dictator who hates
Americans. If you do the math at $30/barrel, these imports amount to
over $18 BILLION! (oil is now $90 - $100 a barrel).
Here are so me large companies that do not import Middle Eastern oil:
Sunoco..................0 barrels
Conoco..................0 barrels
Sinclair..................0 barrels
BP/Phillips.............0 barrels
Hess.................... ..0 barrels
ARC0.....................0 barrels
All of this information is available from the Department of
Energy and each is required to state where they get their oil and how
much they are importing.
But to have an impact, we need to reach literally millions of
gas buyers. It's really simple to do.

Photographers Show Invitation, also WWII show at Trewin, etc art notes
I'll have scan of Norman Ham's new show of WWII stuff, at Trewin May 15, 16 for Art Walk up next blog, but stop in and see the photography for that one.
Was out and about with favorite friend to meet up with for messing about downtown, enjoyed Senor Taco first of the raffle prizes to use from Mistlin Show. I bought four raffle tickts at the Spring Show opening, won three raffle prizes, so also artel, wine for mom's day dinner I'm cooking.
Went on to Mike Frankel Show at DEVA, where got to see the photography we discussed on Wednesday, and certainly rock history on the walls, and we liked it. Show is up to June 7, and interesting to see, shots done in camera prior to processing, on site at concerts of 60s and 70s. On over then to Queen Bean, music and coffee, then over to see Mary Boutte and Jazz Bros at Clayton's, where we ran into JB, talking to Eric Benson, picking up coconut creme cake for Linda, just back from Blues, Brews and BBQ seeing Tommy Castro. He'd called me, we were already on way elsewhere to dinner, so missed chance to get in with John.
Home to bank the Mistlin show winnings in my category, 2nd and 3rd, Lori Snable the overall Best of Show Winner, and Kate Jackson for hers in mine as winner, Dan Peterson in the other watercolor category, and see rest of listings of winners in SCENE section notes Friday.
Here's note from Patterson Irrigator for Photographers.

Oh Modesto...
What a strange week this has been for me. I have been home most of the week watching movies and playing video games and I have to say that the time alone has been good for me. This has been a week where I have been really concerned for my health. I feel fine and I have managed to stay out of the hospital, but the reality of needing a liver transplant has really been on my mind. It honestly scares the hell out of me, but with the support that I have received from our community and my family and friends, I am thinking now more than ever that I can win this battle.
What I need to do this weekend is get out of the house. I want to make it out to the Mistlin Gallery where my friend Jim has his prize-winning work displayed (congrats Jim!) and maybe tomorrow morning I will have breakfast at Cafe Deva and check out their latest art exhibit. If you never have had breakfast at Deva, you really should try it out. The prices are fair and the food is always good.
Do you have any big plans for the weekend? There are a ton of options available. You can check out the Modesto Air Show, see Blind Melon at the Fat Cat, watch the Coca-Cola relays or check out The World of Laughs comedy show at the State Theatre.

Whatever you do, don't forget about your mom on Sunday. My mom is up in Redding and I will be sure to call her. Maybe I should have gone to see her this weekend. Maybe I will. She would enjoy the surprise.
Have a great weekend out there and enjoy this incredible weather that we are having! According to the nifty little widget on my Mac, the weather should not top 85 degrees until Tuesday when we may see 90 degrees. This is perfect bike riding and long walk in the evening weather!
Take care,
Mojo

Spring Show opens tonight at Mistlin, Mike Frankel at DEVA Saturday
Lori Snable's work won best of show, and I've seen it, was my favorite among entries as I walked in, but may be subject to People's Choice award, in case you hit voting spot at Mistlin's Gala tonight for Spring Show, or during show run. Kate Jackson won category where I'm in with two.
I got mention in the Watercolors Nonobjective, figure or still life, at second and third, ..... last time I entered in 1993 did win, but my acrylic I'm not sure why its up..... so you be the judge, not sure with renters moving I can afford to bring favorite guest with me tonight,
I've got other works up at Act of Kindness on 14th Street, Clayton's and State Theatre for Art Walk this month, which should be good.
$25 at door tonight if you want to attend the 55th Central California Art Association Spring Show at Mistlin Gallery.
Interviewed Mike Frankel a bit on Tuesday at lunch, and his opening of show at DEVA is Saturday night. Interesting photographer, and photography, the way he did the shots, so though did album cover for Hot Tuna, and Jefferson Airplane box sets, these are classic tour shots not published and the effects are done in the camera, reset film, settings, etc, before processing, so not photoshop, printed as taken.
So, couple of events, Spring Show opening gala tonight, or visit during new Tuesday through Saturday gallery hours, and DEVA opening for Mike Frankel tomorrow night, and his show be the one up for Art walk this month through June 7.
